I finally broke down and took the CRD in for the F31, its there now. The only reason I took it in is because I dont want to ever have to take it back again.

The part I didnt like was having to put it back stock.

Plug MAF back in :(

Hook CCV back up :shock: :x :x

I only drove it about 50 miles with the MAF plugged in and I hated it, I only drove it 5 miles or so with the CCV hooked up. That was even worse.

I left the V6 intake on there....hope they dont mind :?

I am anxiously awaiting the come pick her up call.....they gave me a PT cruiser for a loaner :roll:

Have them fix the heater/fan control module that was recently recalled for possible fire hazzard. I also just got another LBJ recall notice so have them check that out too.

Have you received notice of the recall on the fan? I read somewhere that it wasn't happening till May sometime. No new recalls for mine yet.

When they did the F31 on mine, I swear it was neutered in the torque after that. I still think it is a stealth version of the F37 without the TC recall job being associated.
I really do need to get an OBD reader to see if this F31 did solve that issue.

Mine was built 5-11-06, so it was probably neutered before I even got it. I will NOT be happy if I notice less power.

They called a little while ago to tell me it was done. At least I didnt get "sorry but we fried your TCM and its on backorder for 3 weeks". I would be asking for a different loaner for sure, this PT Cruiser w/20K drives like its got 220K on the clock. It doesnt deserve they chrysler emblem its got.

I traded a PT Cruiser for my CRD. It was an alright car, but not my style. I love CRD!

From what I understand, the F mod only changes the torque in higher gears.

Never trust your "butt dyno". Best thing to do if you're really concerned, is to dyno it before and after the modification.

On motorcycle forums, guys are always bragging about how a new intake, air filter, muffler, power commander, etc...made their bike so much faster. Then smarter guys do the before and after dyno test, and find that many "performance" mods will actually lower your power.

I'm willing to bet that the F37 (or 31) mod didn't lower the torque that much. It's supposed to be 7ft/lbs, and in the grand scheme of things, that's not a whole lot. If it makes the vehicle run better or longer, then it's not a bad thing.

Sort of sad they didn't test the powertrain before hand to make sure it could handle the torque of the little VM Motori beast. :)

Well, everything seems to be as it were before. Just need to put the EHM back on and all is well. They guy that pulled the Jeep around front for me got out and was looking at it funny while it was sitting there idling...He said he thought there was something bad wrong with my engine, then he remembered they made a diesel 8)

When Ranger1 and I got together last weekend, he brought along his Eqqus scantool to compare readings and check software versions.

His had the CF software (F31/F37), mine had the CE (pre F31/F37).

We were able to do a side-by-side driving comparison. To both of us, there was a noticeable difference in highway performance between the two vehicles.

Both of us were running the V6 airbox and the ORM. I'm wondering if the ORM makes the differences between the software versions that more noticeable.

Another thing both of us noticed. While his noise level meter didn't discern any noticeable difference between the two vehicles, his had more of a distinct "clatter" to it, like my MB. We both wondered if perhaps the F31/F37 software did something with the timing.

your almost right... but....

the torque IS still there, just not all at once... let me pause for a moment of silence as we remember how it was.....sniff.... OK; what it does is spread the T over the whole power band so no more beating 'vetts off the line at a red light...

and as for the "Butt Dyno" i trust mine! a number is just a number, its the look in your friends face as your passing him that makes me happy!

Always remember, it's easy to drive a fast car fast, but much harder to drive a slow car fast. Your friends will be even more impressed when you can tip it up on two wheels going around corners while flicking them a bird out the window. LOL! :wink:

I've been known to pull a wheelie or two on my adventure touring rig. It's fun as hell to do a track day and pass sportbikers on my big 500lb rig with the top trunk mount still attached. This is from my last track day:

There should be a sticker on the bottom of your hood, probably near the air box area, that states the date an recall number.
After the F31, the shifts were moved up above 2500 rpms which added to a slushy shift and keeping it from being in the max torque range for the next gear engagement.

Mine shifts the same now as it did before, it will hold 2000 RPM +/- 200 under normal accelaration. Get on it a bit and it will shoot right up to 2500 and even higher depending on how much you ask for. Final OD kicks in just before 65.

I dont think I want to drive one with the older shift patterns, it might make me like mine less :?

Acceleration, particularly once up to speed out on the interstate and stomping it to WOT, and "normal" acceleration at speed in the higher gears seems to have been affected.

As far as differences in shift points, can't really say. We each drove our own vehicles on the test runs, with the other riding shotgun and reading data on the scanner, so I wasn't able to watch the tach and note any differences in rpm and shift points.

However, both of our SD's (seat dynos) noticed the difference in how the two vehicles drove.

When riding shotgun out on the interstate, and Ranger1 floored his, it was definitely an odd sensation. Even while watching the scan tool, my ears and subconcious registered the sound of the engine at WOT and my body was expecting the rearward push it was accustomed to along with that sound. When my body didn't register that rearward push, it tapped on the brain's shoulder and said "Excuse me, something's not quite right here".

Even with riding in the passenger seat and concentrating on the scan tool, it was enough of a difference that it caught my attention. Perhaps that's why I noticed it - I wasn't conciously trying to discern any difference and make a judgement, just let it sneak up on me and smack me in the back of the head.

Ranger1 made the comment that mine drove the way his used to before the last reflash.

Even at that, mine doesn't seem to have the punch of the one my friends in TX had. Built in early 02/05, when we made the 1500 mile trek from WY to TX with accompanying side trips to SLC beforehand, it hadn't had any reflashes or major maintenance done to it - all original. Even 1/2 throttle accel from a standing start would give you a healthy shove backwards and scare the you know what out of you the first time around.

Ranger1 checked the sticker on my ECM, and the original software version was CC for a May 11th 05 build.

They can reflash my ECM when they pry it out of my cold dead hands. :wink:
