Post subject: | Installed a Magnaflow cat-back |
Has anyone lately installed a catback exhaust from magnaflow, gibson, etc. I've been wanting to put a catback on my CRD from one of these manufacturers but still can't make up my mind, i'm affaid of the noise level in the cabin to where your ears hurt from the rumble at 55 mph plus. I am aware of a sound increase. A little input from anyone out there who has lately put one on would help. Thanks all. |

I've ran a Magnaflow muffler and a straight pipe and neither was much louder than stock. |

Turbochargers tend to mute the diesel exhaust noise. I have an Aero 2525 and do not find it to be much louder than the huge stock muffler. |

As soon as I get my lower ball joints replaced (recall) from the Dealer, I am pulling the entire exhaust including the Cat a hanging a 3" stainless system in its place. Is anyone else running a straight thru system (no Cat/Muffler)? |

I have the gibson set up - sounds better - but at the Halloween badlands sand climbing, everyone said it still just made a whoooossshhi sound. need bigger pipe |

The CRDs don't rumble, I got a little unliked resonance in the cab when I tested it straight piped. All the other options listed above give the same general results sound/performancewise so you can go cheap or anything there after. The stock pipe is good stuff so you can weld in whatever and save money. |

I installed an Aeroturbine 2525 several weeks ago. Welded directly into existing system. Can not tell the difference in sound. Actually sounds better. CRD runs smoother on highway and seems to have picked up some power. |

I'm surprised that there is not any gain in mpg using a straight through muffler. That would be a real motivation to changing mine out. |

I did my aero 2525 muffler right after the ORM - there was quite a MPG gain (4-6 mpg) between traffic and on the highway. Could't tell how much if it was from the muffler, but I know it ran even better with new muffler and seemed to also run smoother. I think cleaner air into the engine and a more efficient exhaust flow equals better MPG. I looked at both the flowmaster and aero mufflers - saw cut outs in the shop. The aero is basically a straight pipe. Would seem to be more efficient. The aero costs twice as much, but is made out of stainless steel and has a life time warranty. |

I finally made a decision and bought the magnaflow #15870 cat-back for my CRD (got a good deal I think $395 shipped), I can honestly I am very happy with the way the engine responds, much better on accel. I recommed it for any of you out there with CRD's that are thinking of this mod. |

I just wish that you could get one WITHOUT a chrome tip. I like the OEM system except the back pressure it has. |

Speaking of the differences that aftermarket exhausts make, I'm considering an aeroturbine for the increased flow and durability. At the same time, it seems silly to do so while maintaining a restrictive pipe diameter. At what point does the factory exhaust drop down in size and is it feasible to upgrade it while maintaing legally required (in my state) cat and bolt-together nature of the system? |

Save $200 and go with any free flow muffler, I hear the Aero's are close to $300... its a waste of $$$ (unless of course you just want it so it can be bragging rights on your sig.) As you can tell, no matter what muffler we put on we all have said there is no diff in sound. However all have said we getbetter MPG, and coasting with any open muffler, which proves only one thing... any free flowing non restricting muffler will work just fine! Maganaflow is what i have, it ran $100 installed, Cherry Bombs run $75 installed, No muffler and just pipe runs $50 installed. And the bottem line, my magnaflow has the same performance as no muffler or a cherry bomb or a $350 Aero muffler. Long point already long... save the Cash, spend $100 on a muffler (or no muffler for that matter) and spend the other $200 on skidplates or sliders! or even better your $200 closer to that franken lift! ![]() |

Has anyone done a cherry bomb on the CRD? I wonder if it would drone on the highway? - Chris |
