Hi All, I just got my first CRD, a black '05 with 62,000 miles, Wednesday last week. Had F37 done on friday before I got used to anything. Changed the oil, first put on a Fram oil filter - but changed it over to an OEM filter a few days later after reading you posts. I checked my VIN on the Jeep website and do not show any other recalls. I am not sure if I need to follow up on the ball joint recall - any thoughts? Anyway, I look forward to learning about my new beast from you all! Regards, Kevin |

I had an Oldsmoile diesel when I was in high school - a 1984 cutlass with a V8 and maroon velour interior. Sounds goofy but really liked that car. That was at a time when everyone said what a crappy engine that was - mine went +200,000 miles and got 30 mpg (Always changed the oil every 3000 miles). When I got rid of it it was still going strong. I wanted to get a diesel for my next vehicle, but the only options available here were full sized pickups VW's and Mercedes (none of which I wanted). So - when the CRD came out it was seemingly the perfect. It took me a little while, but now I have one. I am interested in doing a little biodiesel home brewing (I am a chemical engineer by trade)- don't know if I am brave enough to try it on the Jeep though. I still may try and find a small pickup with less invested to try my hand at that. Thanks for all the insight on this site! |

My libby likes bio in just about any proof. It runs a little quieter with a little less smoke, but also a little less MPG. I was really scared at first, but not so much any more. Just think, for the cost of a older diesel to experiment on  , you could buy lots of new injection-system parts for the kjcrd!!!!!  j/k

Welcome...fatweasel I had the Buick equivalent to your cutlass, an 81 2dr regal, with the pillow top seats, also LOVED IT. until it was rear ended. I also have hidding the the barn an 84 Fleetwood D'Elegance, I drove that for 10 years, then lost a head gasket, which happend just befor I ordered the CRD! Love the CRD, but nothing compares to the ride of a land yacht. Now all I need is time to do the headgasket. |

Hey fatweasel! Almost bought one of those yacht-diesels recently in a mad scramble to replace my TDI Jetta...but then found a replacement twin, same year same mileage plus a few extras, and for way less than I paid last year for the same car. Still, I was tempted .... I used to drive a Grand Marquis gasser-eater and that was boating in style! You might want to drift through the FAQ's sticky that Oldnavy did. Bless his heart. If I just got a CRD I would: 1) replace air filter immediately 'cause they crap up fast, use a WIX from NAPA, ...and possibly replace the airbox 2) Put on an Elephant Hose (cheap) or put in a Provent (work) 3) DEFINITELY do the Off Road Mod (pull the MAF plug) 4) Clean the MAP sensor (for what it's worth, it didn't change much for me, but yours may be pretty nasty) Those are cheap and easy, and the ORM will make a huge difference on performance, mileage, and longevity of the engine. And longevity seems to be something that you like!!!! Welcome! |

It would give us an idea what we have to look forward to resell wise. If you don't want to share no problem I understand it is kind of a personal question. |

Thanks Guys for the welcomes and info. I paid $13k for my CRD. I thought it was a fair price, lower than anything else I had seen listed. It needed tires, but otherwise seems very well maintained. The guy from whom I bought it was a mechanic for the Chrysler proving grounds. I am looking through the FAQ's for the recommendations that Biodiesel.com suggested. thanks again, Kevin |

that seems like a really good price. i bought mine two weeks ago...a sport with a sunroof 51,000 miles, did have brand new tires for $15,500...i though i got a fair price |
