Good info but could you snap a shop of where it came from, I could prolly figure it out myself but hey what good is a forum if we don't share the info right?

Check the FAQ

mine was dirtyer, much more soot and then all covered in oil.

I touched it and a chuck came off. From the FAQ it looked like a dry soot. This was wet and oily

For the reason for the difference, check the FAQ on the EHM.

Mine was the way you described. More oily vapor circulating around than Elephant guys.

After only 9700 miles, mine looked the same. That stuff is hard to get off too. Used "sensor" cleaner from Advanced Auto. That alone didn't do it. I had to take a toothbrush and lighty brush it.

I blasted mine with brake parts cleaner. Leaves no residue and the force out of the can was like a car wash spray.

Saber, that thing is WAY oily. Get the Elephant hose or a provent on that beasty. Just did mine and it was only sooty, not oily. Sorry, I didn't take a pic, but it looked uch different than yours. Hopefully now with the Off Road Mod no egr) there won't beany soot next time.

I am SO in love with the ORM that I think I need a bumper sticker or something.

I just had to undo the ORM, and clear the code with the scanner :? . My ball joints came in so it goes to the dealer on Monday

...well, it's not actually located at that link :) The link has full instructions, but the short answer is: Bolted into the top of the intake manifold with one allen-head bolt on the driver's side rear (closest to the firewall) just under the plastic engine cover.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 CRD just turned over 29,382 miles this evening. It was time for the new OEM oil filter, 5W40 Rotella-T, and the OEM fuel filter change, in addition to a tire rotation and pressure check.

While I was draining the oil, and after I'd rotated the tires, I decided to check my MAP sensor.

One word : NASTY !

I had printed out the pics from the FAQ Thread {very helpful, I might add} on my lunch break at work so I'd be better prepared for the task. It was indeed a piece of cake. Mine had never been cleaned, and it had 29k miles worth of crud to prove it.

I used some Valvoline Synthetic Throttle Body / Carb Cleaner (I keep it around for the throttle body of my 2004 Dodge Neon SXT---it's safe for "coated" throttle bodies) and it cleaned up nicely.

My fuel economy had been down since December, but I attributed it to #2 winter blend and the F37 that was performed late December. I think the dirty MAP sensor has been the real culprit all along.

I can't wait to burn up another tank of #2 and compare the results.

For those of you that have not cleaned or checked your MAP sensors, do so ASAP ! You'll be amazed !

Post subject:  Quik MAP cleaning question

I cleaned my MAP senser a wekk or so ago. Like most, it was totally caked up with crap. I scrubbed it as best I could with a toothbrush, but did not use any type of cleaning spray.

To get the improved mileage performance, do you think that the MAP senser needs to be spotless, or just get the major crud of of it and out of cage?
