300 miles to the tank...

This is getting downright rediculous... I've always gotten between 20-22mpg but this week I didn't even get 300 miles before My light went off (299 miles )... I fill up wioth 18 gallons so that calcs out to 16 miles to the gallon... I drive unloaded, and drive 75% highway...

After all the recalls, my gas mileage still stinks, and my jeep still shudders between 50-60mph...

Anyone have any luck with lemon laws?

Unless you are driving with a lead foot, I would think that something is amiss in your CRD. I have a 2005 CRD with 14,000 miles--have had the F37 done, have not had the dreaded EGR problems. I still have a little shudder at 50-55 mph on occasion, but I ignore it. Most of my driving is on the highway--albeit a lot of mountain driving at up to 11,000 feet elevation. My worst mileage on a tank was this winter when I used the CRD for about 3 weeks of commuting to work (75% hwy., 25% city on my commute). This was in cold temperatures (winter blend fuel) in full-time 4WD the whole time, often on bad roads. I still got over 16 mpg. That 16 mpg tank was the first tank in over a year that did not average over 20 mpg.

My last highway trip was 400 miles each way, over mountain passes. Going over, I was bucking a 35 mph headwind for over 75 miles of it. I still had over a quarter tank left when I filled up at my destination. My hand-calcluated mileage was 27.9. Coming back, I wasn't fighting the wind and got near 30 mpg. That is pretty much typical highway mileage for me.

ya something defintly isnt right. I still manage atleast 350-375 miles a tank around town and I have a leadfoot. last time i was on the hwy the whole time on a tank i got 495 miles out of a tank. has it been that way the whole time you have owned the CRD?

Your EGR is maybe going bad. If I rememeber correctly these are ther symptoms for a bad EGR. Either really good mileage or really bad mileage.

I usually get between 20-22 mpg which is still undesireable...

My friends 98 12v cummins dually gets 22mpg..

Most importantly: a one-tank check for an egr issue might be to do the ORM (disconnect the MAF). This dis-engages the EGR, so try it for a tank and see if have a serious improvement (like 4-5 mpg), you might pinpoint that ol' EGR. You will get a CEL, but you can always clear that later.

Also: it does depend on the diesel. Have you considered the diesel quality?Winter diesel? Or has this been an on-going thing.

Second: how's yor air-filter? They can get really nasty depending on where you drive an if it rains a lot.

I always buy diesel from a local oil company that claims they get it " right off the pipeline ". They are a commercial only facility and I wait in line with all the comercial trucks to fil up. I do this because I know they do a high volume of diesel fuel, and because they tanks are above ground I know they have to blend to keep it from gelling...
I've got 37k Miles on it and It's never gotten more than 22mpg and I leave town a lot and drive lots of highway.

I am bad about my air filter but I did check it today and it looks clean, still white, no black crud builtup in it.

i too feel i get pretty bad mileage. the best i ever got was 23mpg 95% hwy driving. i have 52,000 miles on my rig. i figured i would get at least 25mpg, however i belive they still have winterblend in central minnesota. i am still being optimstic that it will improve.

i just tried the orm mod, so i will see if it get better.

much more power!!! love it

Try a quick & dirty repair first, pull your manifold pressure sensor from you intake manifold for cleaning. Most likely it looks like a lump of charcoal by 37K miles. This sensor will kill your mileage if blocked.

Check your rear brakes for dragging. It is very common on all liberty's.

My latest tank was 16.5MPG, so you are not alone. I cleaned that intake sensor about 500 miles ago, and this tank, I ran some PowerService. The tank before was about 17MPG.

This is the first diesel I've owned, so take this advice for what it's worth, nothing! LOL!

But I've had gassers that were getting awful mileage and I unhooked the battery for a couple of hours to reset the computer. When you hook it back up, drive normally and the computer will re-learn things all over again. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.

No idea. I get 305-360 miles to a tank with a HEAVY foot and autobahns speeds, 100mph+. I am at 276 with just under a half a tank and spent a most of that on the autobahn yesterday at 100+.

Well they replaced the MAF Sensor.... the readings were VERY low, but it was not setting off a CEL. No clue why.

Lately my milage has been all over the place. I have see everything from 300 to 500 miles per tank in the last month with freeway driving. I think it is the new TC.

20 mpg, any sort of driving. That is what I get from my CRD. It is the dodge powerwagon (I owned one that got 8 mpg doing anything) of jeeps for me.

I'm experimenting with mileage.

I filled up yesterday and got 24mpg. That was about 175 miles of city stop and go, and the rest highway miles at 70mph with the cruise on. I got 480 miles out of the tank and filled up with 19.6 gallons. Even around town, I was ginger on the throttle. On the highway, I was careful not to acclerate quickly.

This tank full, I'm give 'er the spurs. I am going to keep my foot on the floor and do as much city driving as I can to see what I get. I'll be towing some on this tank too. I'll let you know what I see.

After popping out the Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP) the other night and cleaning it, I went from about 20/21 to about 23/24 in mixed driving... finding a loose hose in the turbo intake was fun, too (and it was just downstream from the CCV hose, so there was oil everywhere...).

It's amazing that a simple repair that's not listed in the regular maintenance (at all, I think) is so obviously helpful considering the emissions control on the vehicle.... Shouldn't there at least be a TSB out that says "If mileage sucks, clean the MAP and retest" or something?

It has warmed up a little here in NH and my mpg has just jumped back up from winter levels to 24.4 (440mi/18gal). That is 80% hiway @ 70 mph including much travel in 4wd with the heavy rains we have had over the past week.

Interstingly enough, my low fuel light came on exactly as I was pulling into the fuel station. The pump clicked off at 17.75 gal and I topped to 18 as it would take no more.

My wife has made five trips on what was almost a full tank; one 30 miles, 3 @ over 50, and one over 70 (it's that far to town - so it doesn't count the running around while there). Her tank is still above 1/2.

That seems to fall into the (at least) 25MPG-ish ("wet finger") category.
