I just got off the phone with the local Jeep dealership. I wanted to find out how much it would cost to add cruise to my Sport CRD. They told me they cannot get the parts, the vendor does not make them available for the CRD. They do offer it for the gas version, but thats no help to me of course.

Keep calling different dealerships, sometimes the story changes from call, to call, to call...

Its possible, is the Gaser drive by wire like th CRD? the throttle bodies are in 2 toally different places so I can see why one kit may not fit the other...if your looking to add all the OEM pieces to do so....I'd say you'd be looking at major $$$ unless you got all the parts from a scrapyard or something.

Mine came with CC and I just figured it was stock on a CRD...guess I got lucky.

Cruise control on the CRD is done electronically by the ECU. The ECU variant would need to be changed with a StarScan to reflect that cruise control is present, and the steering column and associated wiring in the vehicle's interior would need to be changed accordingly to the proper pieces for cruise control-equipped vehicles.

I would trust MrMopar64 here on what's needed but maybe just look into it a little more before you totally give up. I was just in a few dealers today trying to order parts to add the audio buttons on back of steering wheel. One told me can't be done, another said it would void warranty. Last one actually looked into it and this is what I found for '06 CRD, '05 I think are same - I have cruise already but needed to change wiring in wheel for cruise and audio (pn 52029381AA), add lt and rt buttons (56042313AB/56042312AB), replace steering wheel bolt (6505656AA) since wheel needs to be removed. Only one clockspring listed so hopefully mine already has provision for the extra wiring - will find out when I take it apart (up to '04 has different clocksprings for different options). Premium BCM needed but I have it (I hope!) since I already have remote locking. Also they said that there is only one dash harness listed so once again I'm assuming that I'll be ok there. So the only thing you might need to add to get cruise are the lt and rt cruise switches, wiring for the wheel (cruise only - like my orginal harness) and like MrMopar says get the variant coding changed in the engine control module (and in BCM?). Finding a dealer/tech to do the programming for you might be the only problem. Got the audio and other IPod stuff on order, let you know what I find when finished if you want (about a week, DC Canada doesn't seem to stock IPod stuff).

This has been raised before. As someone else mentioned the BCM is an issue. As I understood it there are 2 or 3 BCM's. The one for the very base KJ does not support cruise and I thought I read some wires were missing to the steering column also. A lot of Sports gas and diesel have cruise but were part of a package. Would an after market solution be cheaper?

Being the CRD is drive by wire, diesel and it has no throttle body it's totally different. But since the CRD is drive by wire all that should be needed is the controls on the steering wheel and programming in the ECM. That's how it is on VW tdi's that did not have it from the factory. But having scanned through my service manual there are a ton of things different on the diesel that you would not even think about

When I was still shopping Chrysler customer service told me a trailer hitch couldn't be added to the CRD after purchase.

Thats funny as I found one without the trailer tow package anad they said that all you neede was the hitch and wiring harness. Seeing as the CRD has the heabey duty cooling as standard thats probably true. And they don't give you synthetic fluids in the axles when you get the trailer tow like they used to. It probably makes no difference if you add it later.

I ended up finding one with the trailer tow but the final choice was based on color and other options.

Ours doesn't have it ('06 Sport) and have been hounding our dealer all Summer & Fall - they still claim not to be able to find out anything... I do not know why a CRD is sold without it. Makes no bloody sense to me at all. It is not as if these are cheap vehicles!

I believe the BCM (body control Module) programming and the wiring harness is different depending on what trim package the vehicle was ordered with. I don't remember the details, but I recall that you can add an overhead console if you also ordered towing package, and vise versa. Cruise may be one of the differentiators, maybe can't get towing without cruise...

Hi bigcanoe, sorry for the delay. Finally got around to installing the audio switches and wiring. In my '06, the dealer was correct that only one clock spring was used, so just buttons and harness worked fine for me (only $80 CDN). What you need to do is unbolt your airbag (maybe disconnect battery for safety) and check the clock spring connector in the middle for 4 pins (yours wouldn't have a connector in it since you don't have cruise or audio buttons). When I get time I'll try and get back to the parts guy I dealt with and try to verify if an '05 dash harness is same with/without steering buttons and other differences. Do you have keyless entry?

Any more input on adding cruise? We have decided to try and keep the CRD, we really enjoy it, but adding cruise is gonna be a near necessity.

I'll be at the dealer tomorrow getting some recalls done - will talk to parts guy again. He says if he can pull your datacard it would help. If you want, PM me your serial number.
