I have an 06 crd. It has the shudder in the trans when its trying to lock up. I've had it back to the dealer and they replaced the torque converter and the problem is still there except now its less frequent and unpredictible. The mechanic said that it has a sensor for the throttle positon and it also controls how the trans locks up. I'm asking those of you who have had this problem what did your dealers do to fix the problem or what can be done to fix it. I also have a predator module that works great but with the added power and torque it magnifies this problem. I take the module off about a week before I take it in and they have never ask me any questions if I've done any modifications. Old navy can you tell me what the ehm mod is? When I get it back I'm going to do the orm. |

When I get it back I'm going to do the orm. Shudders, which I used to have to the point where the vehicle would buck, are caused by fuel/air mixtures as well as possible tranny issues. The symptoms are the same. What you think is tranny... probably is not. See the faq, for these and many more questions... 1. The ORM may reduce your shuddering. It has helped for some. I can only guess the FCV is sticking or the EGR is sticking or the emissions programming is screwed up and buggy. 2. Shuddering is also caused/worsened by air in the fuel. This is a main cause of shuddering. Burp your line and see if you have excessive air. If so, make the dealer find the leak and fix it before warranty expires. Until then, burp the line every so often. 3. Check the fuel heater plug on the fuel filter. Several have had it turn the fuel heater on all the time-- heating the fuel way above spec. This can areate the fuel and cause problems. It can also cause an air leak if the assembly gets hot enough-- it melts the plastic. One day this problem may start a fire. Someone figured out that if they unplugged this their shudder went away (when running their fuel assembly was also very warm). Mine used to buck very badly after letting off the pedal around 55-65 but stopped bucking after I started burping the fuel line regularly and had the tech retrain the tranny. After that it would still do the shuddering every now and then, but much more randomly. Burping the line usually stopped it. The ORM reduced it more, but it was still there. Disconnecting the fuel heater made it stop all together. It now drives like it should. Several have also noticed that the Torque Converter replacement at F37 makes the problem much better-- or worse for some. For mine it did not do much at all. If you have had F37 done-- make sure they did the pump with it. If not you may have a bad tranny seal that is causing low line pressure. |

This my start a firestorm, but who cares. I had the tranny shudder early on. Did a complete flush and filter change and put in Amsoil ATF. Shudder stopped. I forgot to put in some extra oil when the dealer did the TC recall, so they added Chrysler ATF. They also made a mistake putting on the pan filter and had to take it back. Put in more Chrysler ATF. The shudder returned. Just did another flush and filter change and replaced with Amsoil ATF. No more shudder. Now have 5K on this last flush, and still no tranny shudder. This was obviously not a scientific test and confirmed through independent testing labs, but it worked. Amsoil made the claim that the ATF would reduce or eliminate tranny shudder, and it did. If you don't like Amsoil, don't do the flush. If you do, give it a try. It worked for me. Not looking for a scrap over which oil is best. Just letting you know what worked for me. Wife confirms the difference when she drives the CRD as well. |

Amsoil tranny fluid - if it works, it works. Keep us posted - would like to know how it performs over time. |

Did you check your tranny fluid? Its probably not the cause but it could be. Dealers love to over or underfill it. |
