I have been following this forum and trying out different things suggested here trying to get my CRD back to decent driveability after the F37 debacle. I have tried the ORM and got great results. I got a 4-5 mpg improvement. I did try disconnecting the remaining two sensors (EGR & FCV) but was not happy with the results. I put in a Amsoil air filter. It's more of what I would expect a air filter for a diesel to be. I have noticed a slight improvement though its hard to quantify. I should be filling the tank in a day or so, so I'll be able to see if there are any mileage improvements.

My next mod will be the CAT filter. I have started bleeding the fuel system regularly. I have noticed that when I bleed the system regularly, the engine tends to get quieter. Practically gas Engine quiet. I have not been able to find any obvious places where air might be getting into the System. However
I did find something interesting in a Racor document regarding air separation in diesel fuel. Here is the link.

The part that caught my interest is placing a tee in the outlet of the filter head with a 0.02 to 0.04 orifice to pass air directly back to the return line. I am looking at trying this but want to see if anyone has already or any thoughts on this.

Thanks

The entire fuel system up to the pump is under a vacuum, any sort of tee to the return line would just suck fuel from the return line. I think we are either going to have to fix the leak (new filter head, lines etc) or just bleed the filter on a regular basis

.......................or don't worry about it unless you are having driveability issues. I didn't bleed mine in the first year I had it, and then only after changing the fuel filter did I begin to worry about it. That and getting all psycho reading the threads. The air doesn't hurt anything and is "normal" for this type of system. No way any system is air tight. If you do run into driveability issues, then just bleed the air out and you may be good for another 15,000 miles. Do I carry a bleeder wrench with me in the glove box??? Hell YES!!!
