Traded the CRD and my Dodge Magnum today for a very nice like new loaded E320 CDI and got my Magnum and CRD paid off, and more then enough money back to pay the TTL here in MO, and even got the color the wife likes. White.

I will stay around here on the forum as the CRD moderator until they have another diesel head to take the position. I'm still a member of the VW TDI forum and haven't owned a VW since Oct of '05, and I visit there at least once a week.

Its a shame you had to sell the CRD, but keeping the better half happy takes priority.

Cheers.

Your gonna love it, I almost bit the bullet not long ago on a ML320 CDI but ended up with a 06 Touareg to replace my CRD. You've bought a beautiful machine with real engineering, happy driving!

Many thanks for all you've contributed to this forum, your advice on the airbox, CAT filter and the Fumoto drain valve has worked well (My wife appreciates the new lack of oilstains on our driveway). If you can keep us posted on how the MB CDI works out, I (and I'm sure other CDR owners) would like to hear about it, since we may follow in your footsteps if it works out well for you.

Thanks for the comments, it sure makes an old fart feel needed. I will keep all posted and put my two cents in when needed, heck I will stay on as moderator if there is not an objection from the staff. I'm retired and have a lot of free time on my hands, and this is cheap intertainment compaired to other things that could keep me busy.

WOW!!! I'm shocked. I won't be far behind you. We only keep rigs about 2-3 years and the clock is ticking.

I have since decided that they were about to go out of the 3/36 B-to-B and maybe I really did the right thing with the CRD, EGR's and EGR FCV's are rather expensive. Only time will tell I guess.

Another one bites the dust. Bummer. You have really added a LOT to the CRD section of LOST OldNavy and, I would say, played a great part in helping to make this THE defacto KJ CRD forum (does anyone go anywhere else?...seriously...anyone, anywhere?).

Hey, we have an "Other Jeep & Other brand 4X4 Discussion" area, why don't we make a "Vehicles that people traded their KJ CRD for Discussion" area? :-)

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind seeing an "Other Diesel Vehicles" section. I'd personally LOVE to hear about the CDIs and Touregs and International CXTs that LOST members own and operate.

And, my 2 cents, I have no objection to OldNavy staying on as moderator. I know that decision is up much more important people than me, but I thought I'd drop my vote.

Back in December '05 they had a Freightliner employees day at Charlotte Motor Speedway. They had examples of all the DC vehicles there for people to check out. E320 is a bloody nice car, but at over 50K brand new...

Guess I'll just have to be happy with my old '87 300D. At least I've got one diesel that doesn't require a ton of money or monthly trips to the dealer to keep running, or worry about being able to get parts for.

Does this mean you've changed your tune about the W124 and newer MB's being "problem childs"?

NO, not the 5 holers at all, some of the early 6 holers had head problems. The 07's with the particulate filters may be problem cars until all the LSD is gone, and the possibility of sulfur induced failures. The other thing with the new V6 is I have been told by two different sources that the V6 is a throw a way block that is not rebuildable, if that's true I'm not sure I would want one of those engines. Two or three years from now I don't think I would have a problem with the particulate filters or fuel related problems there in, but as these cars add the options its it is just that much more that could go wrong.

Sure will. Now you need to make plans for the diesel GTG here in Oct, it would be nice to see few other diesels here besides all the VW's.

Thanks for all your help and please stay afloat.

I belong to a Ford PSD 7.3 forum and both forums are the reason I still own both vehicles.

This forum has saved me money and is the key reason I win CRD arguments with my dealership.

Yep I've got one - an OM603. Parts of the original -14 heads were machined a little too thin and would crack if you let them overheat. Mine still has the original -14 head on it. From what I've seen over on the MB forum, as long as you do at least a half-minute cooldown after pushing it hard and keep the cooling system in good shape, you shouldn't have any problems. Plenty of guys over there saying they're still running the original heads well past 200K miles.

On mine, with the right coolant in it now (some DA had put the green goop in it when I bought it), I have a hard time pushing that beast much above 85 C even on a 95 F day with the A/C on.

603's are supposed to be bad for cracked heads, and the early 90's 602's (in your '91) are supposed to be bad for failed head gaskets.

I found out that there's a hinged panel in the passenger side of the front bumper, so you can access the block heater cord. Found it quite literally by accident. Ran over a $#%& possum coming home from work last Friday, and next morning here's this panel hanging down from the front bumper. Had driven another 10 miles with this panel hanging about 2 inches above the ground.

At least the poor dumb creature died for a noble cause, showing me one of the additional features on the MB.

That's quite a concidence...we got rid of our CRD Monday.

I traded the wife's CRD on a 2007 Commander with the 4.7L v8. We'll now get 15 mpg instead of 25 but we really needed the extra room with the car seat and strollers and all that fun stuff.
