In reviewing all the discussions regarding replacing timing belt and other goodies, was wondering if the CRD engine also has a crankshaft dampner on it. Comments welcome!

The front hub that attaches to the crankshaft has a built in dampener. This is the part that drives the accessory drive belt. The design of this unit is basically a rubber isolator with a tuned mass, very common for most diesels. We are not aware of any aftermarket dampeners for the KJ.

Thanks. I was "guessing" that the front hub was also a crankshaft dampner, but wasn't sure. Probably will replace that as well when I change the timing belt along with the other goodies. It is getting more and more common place to change out the crankshaft dampner on heavy diesels at around "half life", which for most truck diesels would be around 500,000 miles. Replaced the one on my Cummins ISX at around 500,000 miles and it did make a difference in engine vibration. Will probably do the CRD as well.

I have a Fluidampr on both my Dodges. They are nice. I emailed them about a unit for the CRD but no reply. Maybe I'll try to call them.

The fluid dampeners are very nice. Have you expereinced good durability with yours? These systems had durabilty and serious cost issues early in the development cycle. A tuned unit for the CRD would reduce powertrain vibration slightly and reduce the engine radiated noise. It should also increase bearing life!

Yes, the Fluidampr is a nice product. The stock damper on my 01 Cummins was wearing out and vibration was getting bad. The new damper made a tremendous difference. I emailed Fluidampr and got the usual response. No we don't have one for the CRD and no plans right now. Maybe you guys could shoot a couple more emails in there direction. It might generate some interest on their part. I'm not sure I should post the guys email address that responded to me, so PM me if you want it.
