So the now infamous and prolific CEL came on again today. The Code? You guest it... P0401 (actually it was P0410 with the last two digits supposedly transposed - DCX can't even throw a code right...).

This will be my 3rd EGR/FCV replacement. That OEM circuit mod is starting to look good.

This is of course no surprise. I've been experiencing the same symptoms as when this happened at 15K miles. What symptoms you ask? Well here's a list:

- Fuel mileage took a big hit. Lost 4 MPG on average throughout the range.
- Turbo lag starting getting real bad.
- Run-on during engine shut down.
- General poor performance.

So I guess I'm screwed because I don't have an extended warranty. What does the EGR/FCV cost to replace?

I can still get a warranty form chyrslerwarranitys.com. I wonder if I should get the extended warranty and then make a claim under it? Can I get away with that?

Does the Chrysler Maximum Care warranty even cover the EGR/FCV? I just look through the list and didn't see EGR, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, or anything the looked like the FCV. The only thing that I found in the list that looked close was this: Solenoid egr/prg cnt/wstgt/baro.

Here's another question...

Since I refused to have the F-37 Customer Satisfaction Notice work done on my vehicle - what impact do you think this will have on my situation?

Granted the F-37's primary purpose was to address Torque Converter issues, but I was also told the the software flash addressed some EGR issues too.

The F-37 was a TSB and wasn't required unless you truck had the symtoms. My shop would have done it if I had wanted it done but I didn't and they encouraged me against it. I don't think you will find it to be an issue. Can't answer on the other stuff for sure but if I recall someone said the Maximum Care was the only one that covered it. I think I also recall someone listing the EGR at around $400.

Sounds like it is time to try to "clean" out the old one and do the ORM or Black Box! Get the EGR in the closed mode.

I have seen the EGR listed on Ebay for $180-$190. I am not sure though. I am at work and can't look it up right now.

The Chrysler Max Care warranty is the only warranty out there that covers all of the emissions components. Go to this exact dealerships website for your best quote:

http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/

I have talked with them many times but not pulled the trigger yet, but the online quotes are great and they send you an internet coupon to your email address so don't buy right away. Get an online quote, then leave, check your email and get coupon code. Varies from $180-$195 discount.

I keep procrastinating, but now that OldNavy has bailed out my panic has reset as I can not afford to trade/sell/anything sooooooooo.

I'm more worried about the fuel system long term than anything right now.

There was a lot of talk about cleaning the thingy. A LOT of wrenching but I hope it is fixable with effort and a minimal number of parts. Bet its clogged to heck with oily soot. PITA EGR really needs to GO. ORM for you next time, eh?

Take pics if you do clean it....you'll help those who follow
