Have any of you guys tried running your CRD without a muffler? I wonder how loud it is? It can't be THAT loud with the turbo and cat still helping to quiet things down. I was thinking about removing the muffler and tailpipe and putting in a straight pipe that dumps out the side in front of rear wheel. Also, what about attaching you EHM to a check valve on the exhaust. This is another thing that drag racers do to maintain neg pressure in the crankcase. Of course this would have to be after the cat so it doesn't get coated with oil. However, I wonder if EGT and pressure at this point are enough to draw and burn any oil that comes through. Dave, FL |

Dave, FL If you can pass inspection without a muffler go for it! but if not... go with the magnaflow...its like wearing a see through swimsuit it there but it just leaves everything open! EHM - unless I'm really off base here... i think somewhere we decided that attaching it to the pipe may; or could cause a + press on the CCV. so we didn't do it cause the risk was to high... |

I have thought about plumbing my EHM into the exhaust after the muffler. Still might. |

I have an Aero2525 purchased off ebay for $101 and like it, but if doing over again would buy an inexpensive "Cherry Bomb" style muffler. The important thing is reduction of restriction, noise is not an issue. |

I would be careful routing it in front of your tire. The exhaust can be very hot. I cooked half a deer leg that was on a hitch hauler last year and it wasn't all that close to the exhaust. It wasn't pretty and cost me a hind quarter. |

I welded in a Dynomax, but the next one will just be a Cherry Bomb like Tulsa says. It is the cheapest and gives the best clearance from obstacles. Noise has not been an issue at all. |

I went straight pipe, the sound is nice at idle but once on the highway for a few hours it is a little annoying. Was really bad at first but i just finished driving 2500 kms and now i am used to it. Will be getting something for it.....someday. Most likely when i can afford a new 3 inch system from the header back... good bye cat

I removed everything from the cat back, cut the muffler out, and then fashioned a sidepipe. Running the exhaust just off the cat creates a buzzing exhaust sound which pertrudes into the cabin at any speed and I find it very annoying. When I ran the pipe out the side it really sounded like a stock Cummins Ram exhaust. If you'd like to do this I'd personally recommend it, it certainly increased my MPG by about 2 MPG for free nonetheless. Actually if you were to do this, I would even buy the old stock cat back exhaust from you for a special project I'm working on for my buddy's Libby. Let me know if you're interested

I replaced my stock muffler with a Magnaflow which is pretty much straight through, no baffles. At idle it seems a bit louder but once the rpms get up a bit I can't tell any difference. No seat of the pants gains but it seems like I'm seeing 1-2 mpg better as well. |
