Post subject:  Dreaded EGR Failure

Has finally happened to me. 15,550 trouble free miles. Then, a bit of a power shortage (especially if trying to pass). Then, some rough running. No CEL, but a code scan shows PO299 (unidentified Fuel & Air metering error) and some freeze frame data. Then, 100 miles later, CEL with the ubitiquous PO 401 EGR flow insufficient.

I'm hoping for the new part, and a quick repair.

Any info from those who have had the new valve installed? Any failures after an EGR replacement?

Update: They did a reflash and say it's 'cured'. I suspect I'll be back for a new EGR within the week.

Argh.

Well, I doubt a reflash will fix it. They reflash then clear the codes. My cel came on as I let my crd warm up, right in front of the service manager.

Update...

I had the Danno experience. I started it, drove out of the lot made it 1/4 mile, CEL came on, returned to dealer.

It is now 1:15 local time, and they SWEAR they'll have it fixed by 4:00. I'm a bit concerned.

Mine has about 9,500 miles on it and it's going into the shop Wednesday. The dealer I bought it at has had it a couple times and just reflashed the computer. Hasn't really fixed anything. So I'm taking it to another dealer that is a "five star" Chrysler dealer. They suspect EGR issues and say they have trouble getting parts. But only time will tell.

I guess i got lucky getting the EGR as one of DC's main warehoues's is in Chicago and the dealer has a truck that goes there everyday. It took about 3 days to get it.

With all the discussions about the EGR valve, it seems that the best the dealers can do is to order a replacement part and put it in. My question is this: is the new part any less susceptible to sticking/clogging than the old one was? Is there a fix in the works to redesign the part?

I see you have a Pro-vent. Yet you still had a clogged EGR? European CRD's don't seem to be having this problem? Is this a fuel quality issue????

I put my Provent on at 2500 miles. At 8088 miles, the EGR went out with P0299, P0401. Diesel soot still gets to the EGR, even with the Provent. I put my Provent on to keep the oil out of the Intercooler and intake... at 14K, new EGR valve still working.
