| Post subject: | ProVent Install Examples Wanted |
So, I've been trying to decide what i want to use for my provent install in the way of materials and I'd love to hear what you folks have done. Obviously there's the example in the FAQ, but other than the copper/vinyl setup, what did y'all use? PVC? Fuel hose? clamps/no clamps? Feel free to include pictures Oh, things I'd like to accomplish: - no cutting of engine cover - "stock" look - either keep factory CCV hose intact and connect to it, or bypass it completely with a non-destructive removal - have the provent attached to something solid (other than the vaccum tower). (Bump) ... so, no-one did anything different than in the FAQ? |

Here's my install. I kept the stock hoses. Just tied in the clear PVC hose to the hose that would normally be connected to the CCV. I didn't want to cut anything either.

What diameter PVC hose did you use and how did you step-down from the large-diameter connections on the provent? Dan |

I used 3/4" hose to run from the CCV to the Provent where I used a short piece of 1" hose to go over the nipple and then fed the 3/4" tubing into the 1" tubing. It's not a high pressure application, so a simple hose clamp keeps it snug. I did the same thing coming out of the exhaust side of the provent and into the existing tube going to the turbo. The drain tube runs down by the wheel wheel and is accessible by reaching under the vehicle. You can see it through the wheel well. I put a plastic ice maker cutoff valve on the end of the tube so it doesn't suck up anything nasty fromt he road and feed it directly into the turbo. It's not optimal because it weeps a little oil. Maybe a drop a day, but enough that it's making my driveway nasty. I've got to find a better valve, or just plug it. |

Your system drain needs to be completely air-tight when the engine is running for the Provent to work correctly. If not, you are sucking unfiltered air into your turbo and loosing suction efficiency through the Provent filter. A check-valve can be used in the line if you want to let it weep (or if routing the drain into the oil pan). I ran my drain hose down the power steering line, through a small gap in the lower radiator core support, then to a sealed drain bottle mounted behind the bumper. Worked OK but the line and bottle froze solid a couple of times last winter. |
