Locking is easy to get from the dealer or elsewhere, but they are black and don't have provision for the tether.

No....I would love some Dip Sh*t to siphon diesel out of my oil burner and put it in their gasser!!!! It happened to my cousin once as a theft from his bulk tank. It didn't take too long for the sheriff to find them, just follow the smoke. 8) 8)

I've always been more worried about something being put in for vandalism purposes.

I went to the dealer they said there wasn't a part # for diesel cap and it may have a different pressure than gas.

Been running a locking cap from AutoZone since we've bought our's new 21,000 miles ago with no problem. Just tell them you need a locking cap for the 3.7 liter motor.

But then you gotta paint it green yourself.

Hmmm makes me wonder if the E-spec one has a locking cap or a locking cover like on a E28 BMW.

I have used the Mopar locking cap for the gas Liberty, and drilled a hole for the teather. Works fine!

The mopar cap is great until the lock freezes up. I had a couple of hard times getting it off. So I went back to the green cap. Maybe it just needs some wd-40 but still why cant American car makes but a locking door on like (umm let me see) My 20 plus year old benz??????

Nothing pisses me off more than the darn fuel doors you have to pull the release to open. I guess for some folks who live in high crime areas, they are a good deterrent, but any 10 year old with a popsicle stick could get it off. Same goes with locking fuel caps. Give me a crow bar and I'll have that sucker off.

Locks keep honest people honest...other than that, they just frustrate their owners. LOL! :)

Exactly, samething with wheel locknuts, 5/8 socket, pound it over, unscrew.

For that matter you can simply buy the lock key set form napa.....keeps honest people honest.

Now there is something to be said to deterring crime, make yourself a less promising target and the person is more likely to move on.

you know, its a funny thing that this thread is here... it just happened to me yesterday at the lake. Dropped the Bayliner in the water, parked the Jeep with 1/4 tank left, spent 6 hours on the lake and jump back in the jeep back it down the ramp then i hear the "DING!" I'm looking at my dash... and cannot believe that its my fuel light that just came on... i get the boat back out of the water and get the Jeep back on level ground... sure enough, I'm below "E" I some how get to the fuel station 2 miles up the road pulling a Bayliner.... i end up topping off with 20.2 gal of fuel.... I was really hoping to see a car broke down on the side of the road looking at the motor, as WVO smoke poured out the tail pipe... but no luck..... maybe they put it in a boat.... i don't know... id like to think that it was a gasser

Yeah...something tells me you got your revenge. Heck, I'd be more than happy to pay for a tank of fuel just knowing that some dishonest schmuck just ruined their engine. LOL!!
