Post subject:  Scangage II Thoughts

My mind is always thinking about the problems that we have with the scangage reading for a long time. I got to thinking about the overhead displat (EVIC) and where it gets its data from, and why it stays on all the time. In my checking it get its data from pin 2 of the obd connector. Pin 2 is used for VPW (variable pulse width format). The scangage also has a mode set up for VPW. After changing the scangage to VPW I do get a reading on several functions, I didn't have time to check it out completely, since I am at work. I normally use ISO mode. Maybe this will cause the scangage to remain on constantily. And since the EVIC display is not specific to gas or deisel, I may have to change the fuel type to gas instead of deisela. Has anyone else tried this?

Be careful when changing modes. I was switching through the various modes once, trying to get it to respond once it went dumb. The result was a few caution lights on the dash(ABS, airbag? can't remember) and a few CEL codes. I cleared the codes with the SG and restarted the engine. All was well afterwards but scary.

I seem to recall running it in VPW mode and didn't stop it from going to sleep. The slow mode mentioned in another thread is the only thing I didn't try. No longer have the CRD so I can't test slow mode.

Tried all sorts of modes today, nothing worked. It did throw some lights on my dash from time to time today. Will be changing it back to normal and just use slow.
