I routinely get 400+ miles out of my CRD in mixed driving. On the highway, I get over 500.

We usually do about 360 miles in just city driving, no highway. Did did just a hair over 600 miles last spring on a trip, driving 65-68 mph.

Feel sorry for you gas hogs.

When I filled up Monday was talking to a guy filling up a Dodge Cummins and he walked over to me and started asking questions about power, mpg's, towing, and service. Anyway come to find out his wife is driving an H3 and only averaging 13 mpg with best highway driving (60/65) of 15 mpg and looked almost sick when I told him the wife get 18/20 mpg in town and best highway is 33 mpg. He inquired about a CRD efore buying the H3, but saleman said he didn't want one of those for his wife to drive and talked the guy out of the CRD.

When we first got our 2006 CRD, we were getting 350-400 miles a tank. Now that we have 30k miles on it and we're running the offroad mod, the average mixed around town/highway tanks are about 450 miles. All-highway trips give us a bit over 500 miles. We just had the Suncoast torque converter installed so we're eager to see if the fuel economy improves.

No, please, kid-away! By all means. I love my tractor  I enjoy its low rumble and the reminder of all the positives that go along with it.

Heck, if I could get mine to sound like a big rig, I would. I love that diesel clatter. Just says "TORQUE!".

I've gotten numerous questions from passers-by about the diesel Jeep - probably 10-15 people. The first question out of their mouth is ALWAYS "what mpg do you get?" NOBODY has asked about power. I told the last guy the best I've gotten is 30mpg and he said that was dissapointing! I told him to try finding a gas V8 that gets 30 mpg and will actually pull over an 11,000 ft pass!
He said I guess you're right, but to date nobody has been impressed when I tell them 21 city/ 27 hwy. They just kind of nod.

From hearing about diesel VW cars people get this 50mpg number stuck in their head that they want to hear from me. American car makers need to wake up on this subject and make more diesel vehicles- People want mpgs!

At 400 miles I just start thinking about getting fuel as when I normally fill up at about 18 gals I am around 440-470 miles. I have gone over 500 (once) on a trip last summer across the NY thuway/Penn Tpk/Ohio Tpk from Albany to Clevleand. The road is mostly level.

Having owned 50+ MPG VW's, 35 MPG+ MB's, and now the CRD, what seems to come across better is telling them how far you can go on a tank of fuel. When I would tell a locals here in SE MO that I got 50+ MPG I would just get that look of deer in headlights, but tell them I can drive to Columbia SC non-stop or go 750 miles or better on a fill up, their chins would hit the floor.

The guy in the H3 has no idea that he is pay 25 cents a mile to dive it while we pay about 10 cents a mile, and to tell him is pobably a waste of time. He can only see how much it cost to fill the tankl and how often he fills or how far he goes.

No diesel option in H3 by the way.

Ford says they won't sell diesel cars in the U.S. because they can't make money on them  Since they're doing so badly maybe they should not be selling any cars here

I have only gotten less than 400 miles on a tank once, typically I get 420-430.

I get around 26-28mpg in mixed driving. Right after the offroad mod and before the lift I got 560 on one tank. Since the lift, I have not driven it enough to tell.

I drive 85% City / 15% Hwy and get 19 to 21mpg or 340-385 a tank. Last week on a long hwy trip over a pass I managed 27mpg / 470 miles on the tank. This was a full 10mpg better than the minivan and small truck that drove with me.

The CRV, Rav4, Escape or any other car in the class either cannot match the mileage or if they do they don't even come close in towing cababilty let alone off road / adverse weather abilities.

The general population needs to wake up, Diesel Engines or Diesel Hybrids are the future. My bosses Dodge Ram 2500 with the cummins gets almost 20mpg compare that to another coworkers Dodge Ram with the Hemi getting 12-14MPG. It's even worse for Ford Super Duty people where the PowerStoke can get 15.5mpg while towing 10,000lbs and the gasser can't even top 10mpg on the same trip with NO towing.

Give me a subaru or honda diesel getting 5-7 better mpg while also providing far more power or at aleast start putting the Duramax/PowerStoke/Cummins in all the SUV's.

427? That sucks. You should be looking at 500-550 at least from full to empty. I got 30mpg from the tank last weekend running 50% blend from Chattanooga to Somerset KY and back. It was my first trip with veggy. My CRD liked it so much I might quit making bio and switch to veggy blend.
