Relocate the Washer fluid reservoir

I damaged the washer reservoir and fender liner while wheeling. DC picked a lousy location the reservoir and I'd rather move the bottle than fashion a skid plate for it. Right now its open to the wheel well and will probably pack up with snow this winter.

Anyone relocated their reservoir? I've seen a couple of people with gassers use coolant reservoirs and move it up next to the air box, but on the CRD that doesn't seem to be an option. I should have plenty of length on the hoses and cable to locate it anywhere down the passenger side, but finding a hole big enough for about a 4x4x6 inch square is next to impossible.

I have a 1-1/2 quart reservoir I got from Autozone that doesn't look like it will work anywhere. Might just be a question of sizing the the Reservoir to the location.

heh .. I just posted looking for the same thing ( pre-wheeling ... I know it will get smashed sooner or later) ...

you find a good spot for it?

I put an Autozone over-fow bottle infront of the airbox (this won't work if you're running a gasser airbox) with the supplied multi-use bracket and glued the little water pumb into one of the lower nozels on the bottle.... works perfect and easy to re-fill.

It would seem like the gasser air box would give you more room since the space between the front of the air box and the grill is no longer taken up by the CRD air inlet that runs all the way to the grill?

There is quite a bit of space on the firewall under the fuel filter. I understand that there is also a lot of space beneath the battery box but I have never removed the battery and battery box to find out.

Not real familair with the CRD engine bay but I got a 1 1/2 qt overflow from AdvanceAuto for like $7 and located it on the passenger side inner fender right by the cowl.Works great,though I have to fill more often but I don't mind.

thanks for the ideas guys ... I am going to look under the battery box ... possibly get a remote filler spout to fill it

Yes.... I was looking there just yesterday and saying there might just be enough room to fit there. I've heard of a couple of people that used that spot for a compressor.

The passenger side of the engine compartment is the most logical spot because the tubing and wiring can easily be routed. Probably have to extend a couple of things to get it under the battery tray or just forward of that.

i think for now .. I am going to put the stocker back on so I can put the bumper cover back on ... then when I smash it .. I can get an aftermarket one ...

I have thought about taking the stock one off, cutting the middle out of it, and jb welding it back together-- to shorten it up. Cutting the middle out will let you raise the height of it up as much as you want (reducing capacity, of course) and not put something else under your hood. Plus you will probably still have more fluid capacity than if you add another tiny container.

I figure just make a straight cut horizontally across the whole thing, cutting it in half. Then slip the upper half inside the lower half and push the lower half up into the upper half. When you have made it small enough, mark it on both pieces, then put it apart and smear jb weld (or something) inbetween the marks and push it back together. Put a beam of weld around it and let it dry.

That should do it, no relocating and rigging of new attachments needed.

Would this work?

Heck, you can GB Weld anything. They should use it on th Space Shuttle! :lol:

Personally I would miss my current washer jug as it holds so much and I don't need to be refilling it all the time. To each their own though.

I've decided to just put mine back in ... when I crush it .. I'll just get a smaller one ... I want to get as much use out of the huge tank as I can get I guess ... sigh ...
