Post subject:  Oil Leak
Anybody else have a small oil drip under their CRD? Started with just a drop of oil and over the months has progressed to a teaspoon. Is this a warranty item. Our dealer is horrible and I prefer not to deal with them unless totally necessary.

I had an oil leak repaired under warranty. First dealer worked on the oil pan gasket, didn't stop it, second dealer replaced the oil return line from the turbo, fixed it. Seems the first dealer used RTV to try to stop the turbo return line leak.

Where are your crancase gases going? (factory closed vent or open vent or Provent)

Most likely this is accumulated oil from the closed crancase vent pooling in the intake boot and leaking around the front of the turbo. The next most likely source is oil "sweating" through the charged air hose and/or hose failure where it attaches to the turbo. You want to inspect this charged air hose connection as it will leave you stranded if it pops-off the turbo. Be ready for a big oily mess when you take this apart.

There is a new style CAC hose which does not sweat oil which your dealer should replace under warranty. Mine completely refused to clean-up the oily mess as DCX claims it's "normal" for these engines to pass oil through the air intake and won't warranty.

Was inspecting the turbo inlet hose between the air filter and the turbo the other day (to look at the crankcase vent hose to see if it needs revised) and found that the oil soaked turbo inlet hose had softened to the point that it had disintigrated under the worm clamp holding it onto the turbo flange :shock: There were several holes and cracks on the underside that were letting in dirty air. Wow... I wonder how long that was "sucking"

Got a few miles left on the warranty so they're replacing it and the other oil-softened CAC (intercooler) outlet hose under warranty. The CAC inlet hose was recently replaced. Asked them to clean out the intercooler, but doubt that will happen. That crankcase oil injecting vent hose will need to be revised asap. Could the oil your seeing be leaking from under there?

I've had an oil leak for several months and it was just repaired last week. Was found to be the main seal...replaced under warranty. There are at least a couple others here on the board who had the same issue I believe.

If the Jeep is still under warranty, take it in and have them take a look. Get it fixed now before your warranty is up in case it is something big.

I seem to remember someone having a leaky allen-plug on the side of the head(on the engine :wink: ) maybe on the right side under the turbo.

about 5 trips into dealer for this one for me, but still not fixed for me. Tuff one to find, guess it may be rear seal as well.
20K later still dripping.

I had the same thing. Take a flashlight and check your turbo. My turbo sprayed the entire side of the engine full with oil. They replaced it and it has been fine ever since.
