I checked at a dealer yesterday and the new warranty can be purchased from Chrysler for vehicles dating back to 05 model years. Unfortunatly diesel vehicles are not eligible, including our CRD's. |

Diesel, CRD and SRTs are not covered under DC Lifetime Warranty. I also suspect that there is a huge catch with the "Lifetime Warranty" business. What? You mean to say that if my engine stalls at 250,000 miles on my 08 Commander in 2025 they will fix it? They will probably schedule mandatory maintenance at their dealers, every 3000 for oil change $40 a pop, every tune up, every little thing... and if you get anything done somewhere else, they would blame and void the warranty.. Just gotta read the fine print. |

Just gotta read the fine print. Talked to them about that Saturday. Its the same as the existing warranty, but extends the 'drivetrain'(defined as engine, transmission and drivetrain components) for the length of the original purchaser's ownership of the vehicle. No catch, aside from the free five year inspections. You would have to do everything you have to do for current warranties, I'd suggest keeping records of oil changes and such. The thing to remember here is that the typical vehicle is only owned by the first owner for around 3 years the last time I heard the statistic. So 90% of these warranties will never have to be honored. Very few people will buy a vehicle and run it until it dies. The losses they take from us few who keep a vehicle till its truly toast will more than worth it for the marketing value a 'lifetime warranty' gets Chrysler. If 90% of those people resell their cars, Chrysler ends up being obligated for very very few vehicles for any length of time, but the public perception of their product will raise considerably. |

You are right, but from what I know Jeep owners tend to act against statistics. I mean how many true jeep owners sell their vehicles within first 3 years? Especially if you put some effort to it and kept it in tip top shape. I wouldn't. In other words, if there are no other requirements, it is somewhat of a good marketing technique. Lifetime Warranty.. I think if they added "knowledgeable, honest and friendly dealers and service centers" I would buy another jeep right now... Vehicles are great, service is poor.. |

No disagreement there. My dealership got sold and is now a used car lot. I was happy with their service, but now I'm in a wasteland trying to find someone to take care of my CRD. The one I tried(a Lithia dealer) was terrible, charged me $119 for an oil change and did nothing else from the checklist for that mileage. Very frustrating that I'll have to shop around. Aside from that, while Jeep owners may act against the statistics, I'm betting that we are not the majority of vehicles Chrylser sells. Heck, if Jeep became too big a drain they would just spin it off or sell it, but I really don't think its that large an issue... |

I'd have to echo the sentiments I saw expressed on another thread - I don't want them working on my vehicle for life, ie, the Neverending Dealer Service Appointment (with apologies to the movie). Heck, I don't want them working on it NOW! Same for the comments on dealer service quality - if I had any confidence in DC's solutions or the service tech's quality of work, I wouldn't be spending my own money, sweat, and time to come up with my own fixes. |

My wife's '03 Wrangler came with a 7yr/70k powertrain warranty. Haven't used it yet. When I bought my '06 CRD I asked what happened to the longer warranty. I was told by the dealer that customer's saw no value in an extended warranty. Now Chrysler is offering this new warranty. |
