My CRD went into limp mode last week. Dealer stated that it's not just CRD's it all newer vehicles. The computer senses something is wrong and puts it into a limp mode to get the vehicle off the highway and just enough power to limp home. He stated that it's happens to a lot of vehicles. The computers sense a problem and limp mode appears. he also stated that many time just shut it off and wait and it will return to normal. When my CRD did last week I shut off the vehicle when I arrived home. The tow company arrived and we started the vehicle up and it seems fine. Towed to delaer anyway, they paided for it not me. Extened service warranty and believe me CRD's need them. I probably have gotten 600.00 of my 2000.00 back so far. Just for tows and rentels. My vehicle is driving excellent now and no more howling, windshield was resealed. |

Just once in 38000 miles. Happened shortly after setting off on a cold morning, turned the corner just down from my house and as I was accelerating out of the turn, it went into limp mode. I stopped, shut her down and restarted, no problem since. I had seen a post here on L.O.S.T about the limp mode before it occured and was very glad I did. I've never had a vehicle do that before or since. |

Once at 8500 miles. It was a cool spring day and I was out in the middle of the desert. getting on I40. Limped it over to the side of the road. shut it down and it restarted the same sputter... sputter. Waited and contemplated on calling the tow service, then tried starting it again. It started right up and has been running fine ever since. |

So far, limp mode has never occurred (at 18,000 miles right now.) Not looking forward to it, either. I had some stuttering and major loss of power in a left turn a couple times, but as soon as the turn was complete the problem stopped, so I don't believe it was the limp mode. |

Don't confuse the "STARVED FOR FUEL, RUNNING LIKE A 1941 JOHN DEERE B ON TWO CYLINDERS" mode for the programmed "limp" mode. True "limp" has you sluggish at startup because you are stuck in 2nd gear until it clears and have a CEL but the engine sounds just fine and doesn't stumble. I have had one true limp mode when the truck was about 6 months old and about 2 miles from the dealer. By the time I got to the dealer it had cleared itself without my shutting down and re-starting, but the CEL was still lit. It threw a code that no one had seen before and never did figure out. I had the other situation happen to me too about two months ago and it is very scary if you can't get off the road to get it cleared. Much different then "LIMP" though. Perhaps we should call it the geriatric wheeled walker mode (GWWM). |

once - just passed someone (he was going 45 in a 60 on a 2 lane road) - and as I slowed down the engine kept slowing - would rev a little - no power - pulled off to the side - checked for a blown Turbo hose (that's what it felt like) - couldn't find any problems - turned it off and back on - no problems,no repeats (and I made some highspeed passes to confirm) I'm at 40K miles now - this occured about 6,000 miles ago. |

ive had it happen to me once, it was my 2nd full tank of 100% bio so i thought it was a blocked filter, i pulled over turned jeep off, got some fuel out from my bleed screw on the filter and it was a clean as it was when i put in in the tank. now i was L.O.S.T. in what to do next, so i turned the key put it in gear and it was like nothing happened. no CEL, no nothing! its never happend agin |

Never happened on the CRD but I've seen it twice on my Caravan, both times due to a failed speed sensor. A real pain is the stupid if you have to drive any distance to get home. |

Yeah this is kind of what I was talking about. The limp mode / no power stuck in second or third, but mine was stumbling when I tried to floor it to get off the road. It sounded horrible. I've had the air in the fuel problem. Not bleeding the fuel line correctly after changing to the cat2 filter was the cause. The motor just quit running when the air hit the pump. These are completely different in my opinion. On the fuel problem the jeep would not start up until I bled the lines. All in all this problem isn't of much concern. It did freak me out a bit but I still was able to go down the road. I'm really worried about the transmission going the distance. Anybody seen a reasonable manual transmission conversion? I'll just keep dreaming. |

I had a Caravan with a bad tranny that would shift into official "limp" but that doesn't affect the engine. When I had the "limp" that these folks often refer to the engine ran bad, the RPM's were up but there was no power. There was no air issue that required bleeding fuel though, it just cleared by itself after shutdown, a short pause and a restart. The restart did not require noticeable extra cranking on the re-start. I have had the official "limp" with the CRD too but the motor ran just fine the same as it did in the Caravan. |
