Mine's the same way at 60 mph, even with all the mods. Just not a good spot as far as engine rpm, power curve, and gearing. Same way here - doesn't feel like it's back to normal until it hits 62 mph and above. I'll either keep it below 58 to keep it in 4th, or bump it up to 62 and above to avoid that "dead spot" at 60. Going up any kind of real hill at 60 it just feels as if it's running at too low an rpm and lugging. I'd definitely prefer if they delayed that final shift until 62 mph, instead of 58 where it is presently.

Strange thing, when I drove my friend's CRD during the move from WY to TX in '05, there's was a Feb '05 build with the original software, completely bone stock. Didn't notice this "dead spot" or any other such oddity on theirs. Even when I first picked mine up, a May '05 build, it didn't seem to have the same "oomph" as their Feb '05, and already had this odd shift pattern. I'm pinning this one on subsequent software versions and "TC reliability" flashes.

FWIW, according to Ranger1's scanner, I have the CE version software, the one before F37. Mine shifts into OD at 58 mph, and drops out when you go under 55 mph.

I just ordered a purolator-facet posi-flo pump from the locals here. PartsAmerica, 29 bucks a pop, I've got that in o'rings so far. It's a internal regulated 4-7psi /32 gph unit. I guess the some of the TDI'ers have added them inline in the engine compartment b4 the filter (at least on one site I saw) a very simple add on for positive psi's to the filter head, as I'm not overly stimulated to re-engineer the fuel sucking system either. The pump might need a little rework as it arrives with 1/8 npt ports. The port bosses are pretty hefty so I think they could be opened up to 3/8 npt. One thing I have to be sure of, is if the pump is a flow thru design so if the pump stops, the juice will still pass thru or won't restrict the big I'sucker/squirter. What an adventure...... The Kennedy lift pump was the recommended by one of our fellow Jeep RE-designers but I figured at 195.00 that would have been a NON-"Princess" Approved Experimental Investment (yes..I'm saving up for a spine). By the way we've avoided the F'd 37. So I guess as I have been informed, the Jeep experimentation will continue after the oHIo adventure. Saturday afternoon I will be riding past JEGS with TP's kinfolk wondering what I could do with about 4 hours in that warehouse.

Maybe I'll hold off on the pump install. I do believe "TP"s build date is about the same as yours Mr. Retmil or maybe a bit later. I'll check. But thanks for the info on shift/and running performance.

What about using an electric lift pump from a GM 6.5L? I've been reading
through this page for an ideas that could be applied to our diesel.

http://www.thedieselpage.com/features/leefilt.htm
and
http://www.ssdieselsupply.com/product_37_6.5_TD_SupplyLift_Pump.html

Although not a flow through design, a pressure gauge or warning light
could be added to indicate pump failure.

I think that any kind of reliable mod to our fuel system is not going to be
cheap or easy.

I'm sure you need a flow thru. The I'pump is designed to pull fuel from the tank adding a lift pump would just aid in air removal from the system. While driving, by the time you noticed a gauge or light its hello parts department..."Say...You guys got one of them exxxxxxxxxxxpensive I'pumps ?????

I'm just trying to throw some different ideas out there.
Our engine really isn't all THAT unique. Other diesels use same/similar
injection systems so what works for one COULD also work for ours.
Obviously not the GM 6.2/6.5, but anyway.
Check this out...

Someone here tried a Holley Blue. It's a vane type pump and doesn't flow
through. Personally, I think the pressure from a "Blue" would be too high.
As long as your able to keep crap from tearing up the pump internally it
SHOULD last a long time.
