I've been meaning to post this for months and now I am finally getting around to it.

When my CRD is in 4WD (either p/t of f/t) and in drive, it idles like it has no motor mounts. There is some serious vibration going on. If I slip the transmission into neutral, everything is fine. If I'm in regular real-wheel-drive only mode, you can barely feel the idle when the transmission is in drive.

Do I have a problem, or is this normal?

Thanks!

It isn't normal for mine...doesn't sound right.

OldNavy, if he was reading this as regularly as he did before that Mercedes stole him away from us, would remind everyone that these things were shipped out with low tranny fluid and you should check it. And he would say that the dipstick marks are only useful in the hot range.

Mine was very rough in any 4WD mode when new, but drove it for a while in full time and took it off road and ran through all part time modes, it smoothed out considerably. Changed to synthetic in both diffs, changed the ATF in the transfer case and it got even smoother.

Occasional rough idle, but it is not related to 4WD. Sometimes it’s related to high humidity
