I just went to the Jeep dealer in Thousand Oaks to look at the new KJ CRD and was told that they can not be sold in California because of emission standards. Is this true? Is there anyway around it? What is the world coming to????

Thanks, Jason

Jason,
There are post about this before that you can read using the search engine. The jest of it is that California doesn't have an upgraded diesel car emission standard so the car makers have nothing to work with from what I've read. The only way to get one is to buy a used rig out of state with 7500 miles or more on the odometer. Than you can bring it in I'm told.

Post subject:  CRD on its way!

At least, one for me anyway :)

Jason, check out this thread:

My schedule has advanced. I drove a CRD when I was working in Dallas last week and decided it was for me. My wife was talking to her Mother and idly mentioned our plan (to get one during our T-giving visit). Her Mom then said that she and her husband had a week of vacation next week and they'd be happy to buy one and drive it out! So I jumped on Jeep's site, checked the inventories, and found a Patriot Blue Limited. MSRP is $29,385 (Limited CRD, 22G package, trailer hitch, heated seats). W/ employee pricing and finance rebate ended up being $25,520.

So it should be here this week! It's being reg'd and insured in OK and we'll just run around w/ it still owned by my Mother-in-law until 7,500 miles. The family connection is key in order to avoid paying use tax (sales tax) in both states. I'll keep everyone posted.

I took my wife by our local (Chrylser/Jeep only) dealer to show her the color (our Wrangler is Black) and of course a sales guy saw us and came out to help us. We got to talking and he asked if we'd be bringing it by for service telling us that his guys are "supposed" to be trained on the CRD and said we could be their CRD guinea pigs :P I was planning to take it to a Dodge/Jeep dealer in the hopes that the Cummins guy's experience would help but I guess I could try the local guys. I'll make sure to do plenty of research here first :)

Now to go strip of all my mods on the Wrangler and get it ready for sale.
