Post subject:  OBD2 Trouble code list:

So an idea, would it make a good sticky or thread that whenever we get a OBD2 and find a solution for that problem we put it into a single thread to be referenced later?

Example, had a P0299 recently, "P0299 Turbo/super charger – low boost Mechanical fault" So my thread/post would go something like this:

P0299 - "Turbo/super charger – low boost Mechanical fault"
Symptoms - Poor Drivability, general lack of power, excessive diesel smoke.
Actions taken to remedy situation:
Bled air from filter head - no change
Check FCV for functionality - no erroneous operation visible
Clean FCV - no change
Check MAP - dirty
Clean MAP - no change
Perform Boost Leak test - leak found on CAC hose
Replace CAC hose - Normal operation, problem solved.

And then any pictures of the failure or parts replaced:

I know some others also chimed in that they found the vacumn hose for the turbo actuator to be the problem, and the EGR to be the problem. So in the same place we could have other solution and tests that lead to a different fix for the same issue. Point being that we could have a single concise thread to reference.

Just a thought.

Great idea Sam. The only thing I would suggest is that we already have a lot of sticky threads. Why not add this information to the existing OBDII sticky here:

Agreed, how about these two options, either putting it directly in there like you mentioned, or putting it in a thread(like this one) as the comprehensive list, and then putting a link to it in there?

Two birds with one stone and it would at least keep the code list seperate, though I do like the simplicity of your suggestion.

Even better idea. A post on a specific OBD and solutions and then linking the OBD in the sticky to that thread. We need a moderator to do it and just turn the code into a link. Moderators?

huh? Need a mod to do what? Anyone could post the link to this thread in the OBD2 code list.

Or am I not getting what your saying?

No I get it I was just thinking that instead og making that list grow just edit the existing list of codes by changing the specific code into a link to the specific thread. Since the most common codes are in the first couple of posts finding the link would be easier and faster.

Ah, I see what you mean, only thing would be for multiple incident reports, you would basically just end up having one whole thread for p0299, and link to that.

It could work though, either a mod would need to make the changes, or oldnavy would need to make them in his thread.

Anyone else from the group want to chime in?
