Check out this thread started by Clint in the KK Section. It is a pre-release Indy trail ride for the press. The KK was a CRD and the couple of photos that Clint posted were amazing.

Would Jeep have a press run for a KK CRD in Indy if the KK CRD was only for export? Why would they use a CRD at all just for a press run if it were not going to sell here?

I will keep my fingers crossed but somehow I still have my doubts that its for the US. How did we not know already?

I just want to know if it says MB or VM under the hood

I highly doubt its for the US, but my fingers are definatly crossed. If it is, I'd strongly consider one once the 09's hit and the kinks were worked out....

I think it would be awesome if it did, but it doesn't. The Nitro CRD has the Mercedes 5 speed if that's any indication.

This is still the VM CRD? It would be great if we could apply the lessons learned here on our 2.8L (ORM, etc) to a new Jeep. The 2.8 is just the right size, IMHO.

Still think the spare tire on the underside is:
1) stupid (try and get that with a flat in a muddy, real off-road situation)
2) uncool (hey, coolness is important)
3) wasteful of interior space/gastank space

However, if we remove the spare, that leaves room for ALL kinds of mods!!!! Lessee: Veggie-oil tank, lift-pump. electrical converter....

The CRD in the KK is the same one that is in the KA/Nitro, JK/Wrangler, RT/Minivan. It's the new 2.8L VM diesel - called the "Panther" engine. More hp/tq than the motor that was used in KJ with better fuel economy. Unfortunately there won't be any NAFTA versions of these platforms before 2010/2012 due to NOx emissions.

That may b trade-in time for me...unless a diesel Pilot shows up or I die of old age.
