Was looking around the crd for a good location to install a bypass oil filter. One location that seems promising is in front of the battery. However it would require moving the fuse and relay block behind the battery and cutting the mount away from the battery tray. I believe a new battery tray is about $30 in the event I need to undo my madness. Any thoughts on why this location would be a bad idea? Or suggestions for a better location? If not I may have to give it a try. |

I tried sending o8k a message about his install last week but haven't gotten a response. In any case I searched his posts and it appears he's using the amsoil unit and put it behind the battery. I tried measuring and M-30 won't fit in that spot as it is too wide. Maybe o8k will read this and chime in with some advice Or I may have to check into the amsoil unit and see. I also contacted the folks who make the 2500 but they haven't finished their kit and it is big bucks. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to investigate further and if I learn how to post pics I can put some up.

Still no replies. I did get to play with moving it behind the battery and opening the space. Didn't do anything permanent and took some pictures. Now I need to figure out how to post them. |

I was over at jeepkj. and saw that o8k was real active over there - so I searched and found a little info on his install he mounted it behind the battery

Thanks for the tip. I didn't think there was enough room behind the battery and above the brake controller but looks like I was wrong. I'll have to get the specs from the Amsoil site. I wonder which bypass model that is. |

Talked to Randy at Filtration Solutions (the FS-2500) a couple of days ago. He had a CRD Liberty in the shop at Olatha, KS and they were installing their bypass parallel with the frame rail. Just thought I'd pass it on. |

Phoenix, The bypass filters the oil in the engine many times better than the standard filter, also will remove any water up to it's capacity. On the gas rigs I had before the oil never got past a good chocolate brown in using it with Amsoil for 100,000 miles between full oil changes. |

A standard oil filter removes down to around 20 microns or so - a bypass - siphon's off about 10% of the oil flow and runs it through a finer filter - in the 5 micron range so it cleans better - if you tried to get a standard filter to clean that small the resistance would be too high. The 10% allows it to clean all the oil about every 5 minutes. cleaner oil - less wear on the engine. |

I inquired with Filtration Solutions and they didn't have a liberty kit yet so hopefully they will soon. If they're installing parallel with the frame rail they must be mounting it on its side otherwise it would really hang down. I wonder if they have a shield or something designed. Pictures would be nice. I'll have to contact them again and see where they are at. Any opinions on the FS-2500 as a bypass filter? |

The PM that was sent finaly woke me up guys! sorry bout that i dont venture on to lost much these days so it takes me a while (cuz i always wonder into the CRD section and get in an argument and im too tired and old for that crap) Im in Kj country more often. Anyhows, looks like yall got just about everything info wise tho. ya the the bmk er bkm-13 kit. The only thing new i have is a simple mounting system i made cuz the picture yall have up doesnt show it mounted. ive been running this filter setup for about 14K miles now and i have put out an analysis at 12K and not chased down the results yet. If i get it, i was planning on posting it. I ran Amsoil 5w40 the first 12K and ive switched to ELF 501.1 diesel oil. I used elf in my TDI for a long time and liked it. Anyways if yall have any questions, lemmi know, the install was rather easy, but i had to move a wire harness under the back of the battery holder rather than how its ran normaly, which is over the back of the battery holder. then there was room for the filter-set. |

That set up is the remote unit. It replaces both your standard oil filter and adds a bypass unit inline. That black brick is holding both an oil filter and a bypass filter. |

Just use the BMK11, its a single bypass filter and leave the full flow in the stock location. This makes it setupp half the size and much easier to install. Greg |
