Post subject:  Window Problem, Again

My drivers side passenger window has stopped working again. This is the second time for the window. My Libby is still under warranty, 32,000, but I'm more worried about what I'm going to do in 4,000 miles if it happens again. Does anyone know what happens to make the window fail? Without having looked inside the door and going by how the winow is behaving I'm guessing that it has come off the runner mechanism.

Is it making noises but not moving? Then it is a mechanical problem and that should actually be a comfort because its fixable in the future. Actually, they should really get a mechanical problem fixed well enough not to worry.

If it isn't making noises (electrical problem) then I'd worry, cause electrical gremlins can haunt you forever....

It makes noise. Sounds like the mechanism wants to go up and down but the window isn't attached.

It is probably the "cheap plastic" foot that connects the window to the arm...make them replace it...not just reconnect it.

The driver's side rear window broke on mine at the end of June with a loud "POP". They said the window regulator broke. When they finally got the correct piece (they ordered the passenger rear instead of driver side rear) I asked to see the old one. It comes in a huge box. They had to send it back to DC so they could determine why it failed. Made noise, just didn't go up and down.

Interesting. The first time this happened it just stopped going up and down. This time it happened to my wife. She said she heard a loud bang and the window fell down about half way inside the door.

I had the drivers side rear fail. I was out of warranty, and ordered it from Mopar parts. It was about $55.00, and very easy to install.

I also had the drivers side rear window fail after a day of mild to moderate off road driving in the Sierras.

I took it in to the dealer the next day and they replaced a window regulator.

Sounds like an under engineered part. Its odd that we have all the the same one fail. I wonder what in the design of the KJ puts more stress on the drivers rear than the others.

VW Jetta's from 99.5 (A4 chassis) upward had bad window regulators where a plastic part broke. A class action suite got all money paid for repairs refunded and a 7 year unlimited mileage extended warranty on them  Same for a overpriced MAF on the same series tdi's.

I'd need to find a *NIX thats an upgrade first. Perhaps when Desktop BSD gets further along...

The only way I could ever see myself in a WV is with a diesel, think the diesel MIGHT make up for the myriad of problems they have otherwise, might.

I REALY hate VW.

I have had my driver's front break twice now, and the drivers rear break once. Passenger front seems OK - the passenger side rear is about to kick the bucket too, so I don't mess with it. I bet the passenger side rear has been down less than 10 times .... really sorry design somewhere, or someone forgot to do something during mfg!!!

Every time I call my service adviser, I can hear him cringe about my window regulator problems .... lol

My rear passenger window went this weekend (27K) It made motor noises and clicked like it'd slipped gears, but didn't move. I just added it to the list of things for the dealer to fix when I'm back in Phoenix next month. Then I looked back and it'd dropped about 1/3 of the way down. I managed to force it up by hand and secure it with some duct tape, which seems to be working OK.

My driver's window went out at about 3K. Dodge mechanic in a small town said it was a sorry design and if it happened again to insist that Jeep replace it. All he could do was clean out the tracks (lots of factory debris in tracks) and silicone them. My front passenger window sounds like it has sand in it and is slower that the driver's, but it still works.

I guess nothing on a vehicle should ever break/wear out from normal use.

Piece of crap - I would sell it!
