Post subject: | MAP Sensor removal |
My early 05 CRD is approaching 30k and so I finally got motivated to clean the MAP sensor. Based on the instructions in this forum I was expecting the little bolt to require an Allen wrench. Not this one! On mine there is a circular hole in the top of the little bolt but it is not notched for an allen wrench. The allen wrench just spins around with no contact. The little bolt and the sensor do not look like they have been removed. They are equally dirty compared to the top of the engine. There is no evidence that it has been stripped. It is possible that it was previously removed by my dealer when they were chasing an engine malfunction ( which turned out required replacement of the fuel filter assembly) as the dealer pursued several theories before figuring it out. Any recommendation how to remove it? |

It is a metric allen. If you are using the right size it fits very tight. If you are using the wrong size it will spin. If it has never been off it will terrifyingly tight. |

I just checked mine and it takes a 4mm allen wrench the next size that could be used is a 5/32 but it is a little bit looser. I would use the 4mm. It is tight the first time you loosen the sensor but it will come free then the next time will be much easier. Since I have done all the off road modifications my map sensor has stayed perfectly clean it is really amazing the difference. I hope this helps |

Any recommendation how to remove it? 2nd the metric allen, spend $5 at harbor frieght and get a driver set, dont mess around with some dinky little L wrench. Youll find when you use a driver its really not that tight, the torque is acceptible for a ratchet use. |
