My brother (who by complete accident, has the EXACT same CRD package as I ; mileage, color, year, etc...long story but I guess it is kind of cool) had his CEL come on this week. Scheduled it in for monday, presumably an EGR but always a less than pleasant surprise...anyhow dilema is: he has not had the F37 (currently ~25K). I do not know if he has any TC symptoms, but should he request they drive it, do the F37, inspect the TC and replace if needed? Or just wait until closer to 36K and then ask for it. OR any other suggestions if i am totally off the mark....

a G'D' 6 speed would have circumvented sooo many of our probs!! and made for so much more fun...

Did he receive a notice from DC that F37 applied to his vehicle?

No, he is second owner, but running his vin at the dealership shows that it is "eligible" for lack of a better term.

The dealer did the F37 back when it first came out from DC when I took it in for a wheel sensor replacement. Some here have noticed changes in how their CRD operates, but I can't seem to notice any difference. It still off roads just as well, gets good MPG, and tows my trailers just as before. For me it seemed to be a non issue. Just like with all things about the CRD, no two seem to be the same and react differently to changes and different driving conditions.

If he has an early 05 - there's a significant difference in the way F37 runs - if he hasn't had any problems don't get it
- at least avoid the Flash

Don't let him get the F37 if he can at all avoid it. Mine downshifts frequently since I got it and I hate it.

It was neutered today. It went in for other work, and they said if he didnt allow them to flash and replace the TC it would void his manf. warranty. Whatever. Not worth a p*ssin match and I have a feeling they are correct. However, I dont like their remedy for the crappy TC. Anyhow, he has not noticed much difference so far. These little diesels run well enough they can be turned down and still impress me. A tuner is still apealing but tranmission work is not

Actually, they can't force you to have the Customer Satisfaction Notice (CSN) work done. I called DCX customer service on this one. After some B.S. they finally admitted that they cannot mandate this repair under the threat of voiding warranties. I was told that even if I refused the CSN, my warranty remained intact. So, I've refused this CSN and have instructed the dealer not to perform anymore flashes on my vehicle.

In essence, if you allow the CSN work to be done, you implicitly agree to the reduction in torque that goes with it - even though the reduced specification is less then what was advertised and what you paid for. Once you’ve agreed to this reduction and allowed the work to be done, you no longer have any recourse. I refused to accept the reduction in torque that must be agreed to in order to get this work done. They can't make you accept something less than what you paid for under threat of lost warranty coverage.

If this hold true, my brother is going to be rather put off...he is the lawyer to be, Ill send him your explanation and he can fester if he wants....mine came with the F37 (we both bought used) so it is of little use to me, or him now....darn.
