| Post subject: | 100K timing belt; need CRD shop manual. |
There's at least of a couple of us high mileage types already past 80K. At this point, I've no idea where I'd take this thing to important engine work done. As far as the local dealers around Kansas City go, so far my experiences have included knuckle draggers, code monkeys, a couple places who guaranteed me they've got the best diesel mechanic in the region (best diesel tech in midwest would work at a jeep dealer? yeah right), and one service manager who was pretty sure these things probably have glow plugs. I'd rather sell now than endure going back to any of those places for service. Has anyone else been planning how they're going to deal with engine work over the long term? |

re: Buy FSM, reserve a saturday for the work. And where would one find an FSM for an 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD? As yet, I've not been able to locate anything more recent than '04 gassers. Have tried many websites and a number of parts stores. None even have manuals for '05 gassers. Maybe there's another source? So far, best I've been able to locate is AllDataDIY. But not the same as having a complete manual equivalent to a Chilton or Haynes. |

You can replaced the belt yourself, no need to do anything with timing. Make sure you replade the tensioner and maybe the water pump and the belt have to be superclean with no finger prints. Buy the cd is the best. Take you no time at all to do the job. |

Doing the timing belt on the CRD require many specialty tools that are only available at a dealer. You'll need all three locking pins (intake cam, exhaust cam, and flywheel), the locking tool for the timing gears, and adjustment tool for the tensioner just to name a few. |

Wow dude, thats funny. I mean, you really think the dealership is gonna have these special tools?

You can get the service manual on CD. Just search it out on the Jeep site. I got one and paid $99.00 for it. I think it is very easy to use. It does work on my Mac, also. |
