Post subject:  Racor alternative to the Provent?

Came across this online:

http://www.parker.com/EAD/displayCatalo ... de=Details

Anyone have thoughts on this item as a cure for our oil in intake problems? Wondering if it is smaller than the Provent, as from what I have read it was designed for 4 cylinder diesel applications. I'm having trouble finding pricing info online though...

Racor's CCV is about twice the price of the Provent....

The Auto oil drain back into the engine crankcase is a nice feature, Maybe if we try to buy enough they may bring them back.

That feature is on the Provent also  But to use it there needs to be a hole in the engine to hook the hose

That is correct - and if you didn't terminate that drain port, either in the crankcase or with a plug, the 2.8 CCV system is non-functional, assuming, instead, the characteristics of the EHM - word up, dudes..........................

see;

http://www.maesco.com/products/racor/r_ ... _prod.html

for a description of the racor CCV and how it gets the oil back to the crankcase.

Interesting to note that the vapor out of the filter CCV goes into the line between the air filter and the Turbo !

I guess Jeep was not the only ones thinking that this was a "good" idea.

Couldn't you have the racor/provent return oil to the sump?
You would need to pull the sump off and get a fitting put on it though.

Yes - that is it's function - I'm seriously doubting that anyone here has done so, tho - in this instance, it would be great to be proven wrong.....................

The Racor uses fittings which are not commonly available. I looked into it when I first got my CRD. To me, because of the size and porting of the Racor, it looked like it would be hard to fit under the hood. I actually like the product, but without being able to try it for fit first, I passed.

I don't know why anybody would want the drainage from a Provent or Racor going back into their oil pan. It is truly some nasty stuff and mostly water. I'd happily replace the lost oil in the drainage rather than put that stuff in the pan.

That's the only area where it would function, Bill - other side of the turbo compressor is compressed air, usually at some level above Barometric pressure

How did you setup your Provent drain, goglio?

Just a length of hose with a valve for periodic draining.

That'll work - haven't had a chance to fully investigate #2 son's new ride, so don't know if this one is capped or what - #1 son sez there's increasing drip spot under the Jeep every day, so I'm stressed - could be the Provent bypass valve venting, even worse.
