I have not read the threads about these mods and how they effect my extended warranty and I am wondering which mods are worth the time/money/risk involved.

My date of manufacture is 03-06 and I have had no real problems aside from the poop tranny software and TC. I was running a chip for a while which I loved but I really don't need (it's for sale). I did have a bad fuel sending unit which caused my ECU to not let the Jeep start. I have not checked any of my hoses for oil and I only have 11500 miles. Do any of these factors play a role in the reliablilty or quality of my particular CRD? I have noticed older manufacture dates, especially '05s, have more issues than I have ever experienced.

What is really going on that needs to be addressed and what does the ORM mod circuit entail?

Thanks for any help...

Unless you enjoy modding for the sake of modding, if your vehicle is working fine there is little reason to do any of these things. If you love taking control and changing things to suit how YOU want them to perform, then I'm sure many of these mods would not be a problem, the other forum members can tell you what is best(I run stock and have zero desire to change).

in short, the ORM is a simple mod that can be undone in less than 30 sec. Just unplug the sensor thats on your air box. hop in Jeep turn it on and start driving... with in 5 miles youll know and understand if you want to keep it unplugged.

what it does in short - disables your EGR which is not needed in a Diesel motor.

EHM what it is in short - the Crankcase vents oil and hot gas into your air intake. which in turn heats up the "cool" air that your motor needs AND puts oil in yout Turbo which puts un needed pressure on the seals.

Thhis one is a bit longer to fab and to undo but it can be un modded in less than 5 min.

if you decide to only to one thing i would try the ORM. easy on easy off.

hope this helps... in short of course!

The ORM can be complicated with the SEGR modification or you can simply pull the MAF connector from the top of the air box. If you pull the MAF you will get a constant CEL which you can live with or turn off with an OBDII reader. The positive impact of the ORM is increased mileage, improved performance, less likelyhood of EGR failure. The negative impact is increased pollution, primarily on cold engine start (I think that is when).

Suggestion: remove your MAP\Boost sensor for a Fall cleanup - that should be worth a thousand words - these mods prevent that condition, also providing more power

So if I unplug the MAF and turn off the CEL will I ever get a code if something else fails? I guess I'll give it a shot...

You won't be able to turn off the CEL without ECM programming - the problem with leaving this non-harmful CEL on is you will never know when you have a harmful condition pop up - the ORM kit solves all that apprehension for ya.

Or you can buy a $40 code reader from Harbor Frieght or a "Group Buy" ScanGaugeII here on the LOST Forum like I did for $149 and get some additional capabilities and just clear the code after start-up. It takes all of 15 seconds.

Disconnected MAF never triggers the CEL after that, even in any extended driving event? Never, ever?

Anyway, for my money, the ORM kit is the way to go on my son's Jeep - not as much worry for me.

BTW - what are the extra capabilties of your 149buck job?

Perhaps I was not clear enough. The MAF will always trigger a CEL. The OBDII tool will clear the CEL after start and it will stay clear until a power down and restart at which time you would need to clear the code again. No one who has used an OBDII tool to clear the CEL has reported a return of the MAF code under continued operation without shut down.

The SEGR is another good solution that cost wise (if you hurry) lies between the Harbor Freight and the ScanGaugeII in price and eliminates the need to clear the CEL but it requires that you splice into the vehicles wiring harness in a way that may be dealer detectable in the future. The reason that I mention this is because there have been several members here who have experienced wiring harness failure that required warranty replacement. If that happens to you with the SEGR you are busted! If you wish to roll the dice, are past warranty or you simply do not give a rip and you have the skill to install the SEGR it is probably the best solution.

Tha ScanGaugeII is a mixed bag on the CRD. It is a great tool that you can move from one vehicle to another and in many will give you the option of a whole range of features. In the CRD though the OBDII does not report all of the data and will quit reporting much of it after a period of time. On mine I monitor real time MPG, MAF pressure, Input Air Temp and Coolant temp. Other information is also available but only four report at the same time. Due to the CRD's habit of not reporting after a while I have found the information on accumulated MPG based on fuel tank refills unusable. If I ever dump the CRD though I will be keeping the SGII for the new wheels.

You can see more about it as well as find the link to the manufacture on this post and the purchase code for the group buy here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=23817

Wiring harness failure?

I am not going to go through all of the accounts here and tally them but yes, wiring harness failures. For example it was one of the many fixes of drharv's notorious bang job but there are perhaps four or five other here in the last two years that have had harness failures and replacements. Others have found chaffing wires near the fuel filter housing and another near the manifold that they protected before they failed.

That's cool - how long's the special gonna run?

I have been ignoring scan threads here, as my PC is loaded with several versions of professional scantool software - and I'm probably somewhat obtuse, right now - beng retired, I've been on my duff here at this keyboard from 8am to midnite thirty since my son got the Jeep (only taking time out to investigate and service it), avidly reading and searching and following related links - I see scrolling L.O.S.T. KJ pages when I close my eyes, but I gotta sponge up and assimilate all this stuff rather quickly, as the little mule is already in the stable - beats trying to get information outta Jeep - anyway, couple intense weeks ain't gonna kill me, he said..................

I don't know if there is an end time. I was looking for a good deal on it before I purchase as I didn't want to spend $169 if I could help it. During may Google search I found them offering this deal since perhaps April for a RAV Forum so I sne them a note and asked them if I should get it on the RAV forum or if the would offer LOST a similar deal. They offered us the deal!

In reality I don't clear the code daily but I do on extended drives. It is not as though a new code won't be captured and after months of driving with the CEL on I don't really notice it. I like the SGII but I wish the CRD would report to it all the time.
