Post subject:  The dealer got rid of my CRD!!!!!!

Okay,

Been dealing on a CRD with the local dealer. I went and drove the vehicle, then took my wife to drive the vehicle last Saturday. Wednesday they offered a lower price than on the sticker that was on the vehicle because I found it advertised in auto trader. They never even offered me the auto trader price until i called them on it! I called Saturday to ask if I could come in and look at the vehicle again with my father. They told me that they took it to the auto auction. I was pissed.... Am I overreacting? Shouldn't they have called and told me that I either needed to buy, or they we're moving it? Any thoughts? Put a bad taste in my mouth. Now I'm trying to track down the vehicle. I had already talked to the previous owner and everything.

Yeah, cash is king. It's not realistic for the dealer to hold onto such a vehicle for someone who is thinking about buying it. A good faith deposit would have let them know you were serious.

My CRD? How was it your CRD? Kicking the tires doesn't make it your CRD.

Granted it was his CRD yet....

But I have to admit... I might have been a littled miffed by the whole thing...

Agreed, what if you had been buying from a private party and they sold it 10 mins before you called, how is that selling "your" CRD.

To them your just any other person, drag your feet and ya loose, what if they had sold it to someone else and not you, would you still be pissed? to them it was just inventory that they weren't able to move.

All the above being said, I would have thought that had you had a good sales person, he would have been calling you before it went to auction.

If you know what auction it went to and a friend with a dealer license, you might end up being able to have them buy it for you for less than the deal the dealer was making.

Post subject:  Sale

Dave,

Yes,

I've already contacted a friend with a dealers license to see if we can find it. I would have thought the jeep dealer would have wanted the sale. Especially when I had been in twice! It's their loss, not mine. There are other CRD's.

I have tested out a bunch of vehicles and never gone back. They had no way to know you were coming back . Did they?

Correct,

The had no way of knowing if I was going to buy it or not, but I told them I needed to think on it. They never even bothered to call. It was only 3 days later when I called.

True there are other CRD's but the right one is hard to find. I got lucky.

yes theres also another saying in the biz.... buy low, sell high. All dealers are looking for the 5 STAR deal no matter who the money comes from.....

The way they look at it is, if you didn't put a deposit on it, then it was still theirs and so they auctioned it. Nothing wrong with that. It was not really yours until you at least put a deposit on it or started the paperwork to buy it.

Yes,

I understand everyones opinion. However, common business courtesty would have been to give me a call. It only takes a minute to pick up the phone and make a call. They knew I was seriously looking at the CRD. I had been in twice. I was working out the financial arrangements. Not to mention the fact that after they told me that 24k was as low as they could go, they advertised it at 21k on auto trader. Then when I asked them about it, they just fumbled, and didn't know what to say. In two days, the price that was solid came down 3 grand. Then, after I told them I needed to talk to my wife and think about it, they just sent it down the road without even a phone call to ask if I was still interested? Bad business. They just lost service, and future sales. I'm disappointed.

If I were the salesman........you would have gotten a call if I had your number. Of course they could have shipped it off without him knowing I suppose.

Seriously folks it is their JOB to sell vehicles. Seems like any other time they would be hounding you for a sale

We get cutsomers all the time that say "got to do this or that" without a commitment to buy your a tire kicker to most dealers. I would have called and said its now or never...again most customers just don't believe what we are`saying is true..then get pissed off that the car they wanted is gone. Snooze you loose.

When I bought my '06 a little over year ago it was listed used on autotrader with 330 miles for $21,995. I had never driven a CRD before this one and I knew that I sure as poop shouldn't walk away to think about it. At that price it was a no-brainer for me, in your case, I understand the hesitation. It's clear that you want a CRD but don't get all bent out of shape because some big stealership didn't call you. Why don't you search within a 400 mile radius of you and I'm sure you'll find something...
