I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on a high performance suspension for the CRD. Where I'm coming from is the suspensions that are now availble for the Dodge/Cummins/Hemi from KORE Performance, Carli Suspension, or Lorenz Industries. These guys have custom springs and adaptations to use racing shocks on these beast. Google those vendors and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't want a lift kit. I want performance suspension. I have the mid range system on my trucks from KORE and they are crazy good (and I haven't even tried re-valving to my taste yet). So I looked at the CRD a little. The rear would be easy. Just needs good shocks. I'm thinking some Fox 2.0 emulsion. First question is the measurements of the CRD mounts to see if they will fit. Anyone know the full droop and full compression measurements? The front will be a challenge. It'll take some custom parts to adapt the shock to the strut. Fox does make a stem top 2.0 that was developed for KORE to use the stock shock towers on the Dodge. But they are remote reservoir and the lower shock mount will have to be mounted to the strut brace. It'd be nice to use some coil overs up front. For our libby the stock spring would probably be OK but it'd be nice for another inch or so of travel. The OME front springs would probably do nicely. Of course if you used those, you'd have to raise the rear a little. Lift is OK if it is functional, i.e. increases travel, no spacers. But not to the piont of stressing the drive line. I would want to keep the cost down for now since the our CRD is the wife's buggy. It gets driven on gravel/Forest Service roads a lot so I'm just looking to improve the ride to something like what is on my trucks. Just thinking out loud. What do you think? (I put this in the CRD forum b/o the considerations of the CRD wieght.) |

I believe Koni make adjustable dampeners for the KJ already. Try Tire Rack. |

This is the stuff that I have been looking into as my KJ is primarily used off road on sandy trails and oil field roads.... I have been curious about the ease of a long-travel rear for these Jeeps. Seems like it would be remarkably easy if someone fab'd up the right parts. I guess I am one of those who doesn't necessarily want my rig to sit up a lot higher but negative travel is always welcome...... |

Long travel is relative. Judging by some of the things mentioned here about lift kits, it seems about 1.5 inches of travel increase is safe and doable. More than that and drive line angle gets problematic. You really can't increase travel with spacers b/o coil bind. I would think the OME springs without spacer would do. Like I said above, shocks up front will be the trick. Next time I rotate the tires, I'll do some measuring and see what can fit. BTW check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvLMwAImyIs |

That jump and landing is pretty impressive, but it appears to be sloshing around like a buick getting to the jump. |

I wouldnt say sloshing, I think that would imply side to side motion that I dont see, I do see alot of bouncing going on, though for the speed he wanted to get to get airborn that doesnt surprise me. |

Remeber that's a 7800# truck. They where testing their new hydro bumpstops. I think once you get to hydro bumpstops you need a full cage. Anyway, I emailed KORE the other day because they have a Jeep icon on their web page. The response lead me to believe they may be working on a good system for the Libby. We'll see. They've been "testing" their system for the 1/2 ton Ram/Hemi for over a year. |
