I think I have a new issue.

I was on my way back from a week long trip to Colorado Jeepin in the mountains. Got to within 200 miles of home and after a stop at the rest area, the turbo sound got much louder. It is usually difficult for me to hear the turbo kick in unless I have the windows open, after the stop it was no problem.

The vehicle seemed to operate OK. Talked to the service manager and we decided that I should bring the vehicle in the next day after taking the trailer home.


Another 50 miles down the road the turbo no longer made any noise and the power just kept getting lower and lower. We made it to the next exit and just barely made it into a truck stop.

Called the hotline and they arranged a tow to the nearest dealer. Got a loaner from them and made the last 150 miles without the camper (and without air conditioning).

He called back today and said that the intercooler line had failed. Will drive there and get it back tomorrow.

I really thought this was a major issue and that the turbo or the engine would be replaced. This comes as a major relief.

The dealer said there had been several reports of this failure.

I got to he dealer and he showed me what had happened. The intercooler hose had disconnected. This had caused the inlet to be restricted and no (or very little) air was getting to the engine.

They said this had happened on several vehicles.

This is a large hose that looks like a radiator hose coming off the right top side (as you stand looking into the engine compartment) of what looks like the radiator.

Is is just a hose clamp that holds it so this might be a good thing to check if you get stranded with no power.

I had a similiar problem with my Jetta TDI. But mine was caused by a split hose coming from the intercooler. It all related to the oil from the closed CCV system. It caused the hose to break down(rubber) and split from the pressure. My old Dodge Cummins had an open system, never had that problem. Get a filter system to get the oil out of your intake system. I had a similar experience at ~5000 miles. Driving to work in the dark, heard what sounded like I drove over a piece of scrap metal, then suddenly I lose all my power. I barely made it to work at 25mph. When I took a look under the hood, I saw the hose from the intercooler to the intake was disconnected and oil was sprayed all over the engine. Didn't have any tools with me at the time, so I tried to jam the hose back on. Of course, the pressure blew it right off again. After nursing it home, all I needed to do was fish out the hose clamp from the bottom of my engine and reconnect the hose and clamp. I did get the dealership to steam-clean my engine for me I know I'll check that hose during every oil change from now on. Also will install CCV filter. I was appalled by how much oil was in the system.
