Post subject:  MPG Check in
Just wanting to see how everyone's doing on MPG's :?: I'm averaging about 24.5 mpg on 40% city 60% highway driving on B20 up in Denver. Although the mini computer computes it @ 27mpg+. I've got 500+ miles on two tanks this summer with lots of highway miles.

That is a trick question. I am satisfied with my MPG because I bought a Jeep, and I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. On the flip side, everyone would take better fuel economy if it comes without cost.

Sounds about the same as what we were getting. Very pleased, hitting 30mpg on highway.

Not really, you just need to set the paradigm as a relative comparison to other Jeeps, am I happy compared to other Jeeps, YES! Am I happy compared to the MPGs of a gold TDI? No.

But then thats an apples and oranges and applesauce comparison.

I am happy. Was 10L/100km, 24 mpg now with lift and bumper is 10.5L/100km, 23 mpg cant complain. And diesel is 99.9 and gas is 107.9.
Much better than a gas job :wink:

No matter what I've tried, at best I've only achieved 24 MPG. I typically average 20-22 MPG, even though the EPA averages are typically overstated I'm still dissapointed because some are getting 30 MPG. My driving habits are about 80% highway/interstate and I'm a very gentle driver.

This is exactly what I have found. Not so much on the gentle driver part though. :D

Post subject:  All over the board but...
average from day one until now is 24.00. I've gotten as high as 32.38 and as low as 14.63. Average cost of fuel....$2.89. The worst mileage was on the last tank.....replaced fuel filter three times thus wasting 3 quarts of fuel. I replace the filter and couldn't get it to stop leaking so removed it, cleaned all gaskets, tightened the wif sensor and re-installed only to realize the leak was coming from the fuel heater connector, doh! I also didn't have the ORM implemented due to being at the dealer 3 times during that tank of fuel.

Mileage on the current tank of fuel doesn't seem to be much better than the last tank so I replaced the air filter today to see if that will help. I'm headed to Colorado Saturday so will see how highway mileage checks out again.

I have been getting 24 in town and 24-30 on the highway.
The day I drove it home from the dealer (300 mile drive) I got 34.5 MPG with a nice tailwind.
I plan on putting a better exhaust and adding my ORM kit in the next week, so maybe that will make me a little happier yet.

Overall I'm very satisfied. I *rarely* dead-head on the highway, as nearly any time I get the machine on the highway I'm pulling my motorcycle trailer and getting 19ish mpg. In city/parkway driving I get slightly better, but don't exceed 21mpg. Only one time in 27k miles have I run a full tank of fuel on the highway unloaded. I got slightly better than 30, while the EVIC claimed 32.

I voted not satisfied.
I get City 19 mpg, Highway 65mph 25 mpg. (<90 F ambient, with additive. 5% bio)
I believe that I am getting 20% better mileage than the gasser, part of the time. Probably close to the sticker MPG.
It is the other times that bother me.....

1. With high desert summer temperatures, it seems like the whole system is too hot, and the ECM is cutting back the rail pressure, I guess, and the mileage goes to gasser levels. MAybe the TCM is telling the ECM to cut back also when it gets too hot ?. Cant tell. Anyway, it needs to be fixed with better cooling (fuel and Tranny) for AZ summer use, IMO.
2. City mileage varies too much. I think the EGR is not going to the right opening size in a reliable way. The ORM does not have a consistent effect for my CDR, (mostly, no effect, other than clatter at idle).
3. I just dont trust that my F37 TC is working right. Maybe it is the high rmp stall, or that the lock-up is not working right. I think the mileage is effected by this, particularly in the hilly part of the city at 40 to 50 mph.
4. I feel a light shudder at highway speeds, sometimes, that I am figuring is air in the fuel. This must have a detrimental effect on optimum mileage.
5. To get the standard good mileage, I use additive, and this may be making up for the above listed in losses.
6. I realize that my 50+ lb, 245/75 16 E tires take a lot more fuel to spin up in stop and go than the stock tires,
7. The roof rack that makes up for the small cargo volume takes 1 to 2 mpg off.
8. Fuel quality in this town varies a lot, so it is hard to get good data to judge quantitatively what is going on.

I voted yes. General mpg is 24-26, winter mpg around 22. Still way better than my XTERRA which gave me 17.5 at best and mostly 14-15. Would I like 45mpg-hell yes, but I can't drive a TDI where I go with the Jeep.

1) the odometer accuracy is off...with 235/75/16s I am actually traveling 6% further than indicated.

2) figuring mileage off 1 or 2 tanks is not very accurate. I have been using http://www.fueleconomy.gov and tracking mine ... very interesting after you see the fluctuations

3) I am getting 21.7 90% city/10% hwy with the Airbox Mox, Orm. OME Lift w/ 235/75/16s ... this is after adjusting by the 6% error

4) haven't been able to do much of a highway test laterly

5) have been using some "hypermiler" techniques and they gave me about a 14% increase in city mileage (new EPA 19 city/21 comb/23hwy)...I am getting the combined with stop n' go traffic. I do not use all the "hypermiler" techniques for safety reasons but I do follow the common sense ones and the ones that take a bit of discipline.
44 psi...no idling (turn off engine at long lights/drive thrus/bank lines/ect)...coast in neutral or drive when possible...slow take off and slow coming to a stop (use momentum you have already "paid for")...carry speed whenever possible (cornering, off ramps, ect)...they sound funny but my well tracked mileage jumped 14% using these methods!

I figure with the lift/tires/skids ect I should be getting less than the 19 mpg city and I am getting better...so I am happy.

I'm happy.
I get 26 mpg all day long. City, highway, drive it hard, drive it easy,
doesn't seem to matter. Most of my driving is on flat, level, rural roads
and I haven't pulled a trailer yet. I don't have the EVIC either.

Yeah I would like to be getting 30+ but I really cant complain. This
vehicle has cut my monthly fuel bill in half.

Are you saying that your odometer may say you only traveled 400 miles on a tank of diesel.. however you actually traveled XX amount more miles in reality? Are you using GPS or something to figure this out?

I just put some 245x75x16 BFGs on and am curious..

:) I have a 2006 Red Sport CRD, When it was newm I was getting 20/30 mpg. however the closer I got to 12,000 miles on it the mileage went way down to 12/20 mpg. I cleaned the MAP at 12,500 also installed a provent and I am now checking to see if the mpg goes back up . I am quite satisfied with my CRD. Have a good time at Old Navy's this weekend everyone.

Yes, GPS and Mile Markers have verified the same. The stock tires were 4% more...the slightly larger tires are 6%...Others have found the same...Speedo is optimistic and Odometer is pessimistic. With 245/75/16s you would need to add ~8%

With factory tires i drive about 4.6 km according to the odometer but the highway sign odometer check says i went 5 km. I know i am getting better mileage than i calculate but i dont care. :wink:
