I bought my parts from McMaster-Carr. They sell most anything it seems.

I bought brass 1/4" NPT to 3/8" barb. They sell them by the pack of five.

Part number 53525K17 .

Nice.

I think I'm going with these from Summit($9.95 ea.), and get a pressure gauge at the same time.

Are you doing a lift pump at the same time? I think otherwise you would need a vacuum gauge, due to how bad our fuel system sucks...um, I mean, due to the way our fuel system works.

I've been thinking of putting on the gauge myself, but don't think it will be necessary for the time being. If I decide a lift pump is in order, then I may look into getting the pressure gauge.

I've had a Kennedy lift pump on for awhile now. It makes a big difference. After the CAT conversion I had to pump air daily, and every stop on long trips. With the pressure gauge I like the idea of being able to verify the fuel system is functioning correctly and when the filter starts to restrict its flow. For 15 bucks its just too easy not to put one on.
I'm not sure how important the lift pump would be with the Raycor. I think the lift pump offers better consistancy with performance, and gaurds against pulling air into the fuel system. When you look at the way other manufacturers are using lift pumps and that ours probably was designed for one I feel good about it. The only question is that on the CRD it is not long term tested. However, I think we can provide some alternative proof for Mr. Mopar in the long run, hopefully.

I know this maybe way off base concerning our stock filter unit, cause I had mine replaced after burned out leaking heater plug. What if one made a bracket, had longer fuel hoses, had longer wring for the WIF sensor(which won't work), and turned our fuel filter unit UPSIDE down. This would eliminate air around the heater element. Granted, you'd not be able to bleed air out of the filter. I know I'm way off base. Just an idea.

Could solve the problem by mounting the filter head right side up on the frame, below tank level, where siphon-effect would ensure functional fuel level

That's on my GMC, but you get the picture

Just replaced my Stock fuel head with the Racor 245 with the fuel heater and an Omega temp probe.

I ran almost 20k miles with the stock head and the Cat filter, with almost no air in the head, started having hard starting and a bit sluggish, so first step was to replace the filter. That fixed the slugishness and some of the hard starting, but 3 weeks of bleeding the head didn't fix the hard starting. Couldn't really find any leaks, pulled the head a couple of times, but I cannot figure out where air might be getting in. Anyway, Hard start is better with the Racor, but still not as good as I had it before.

Next step I think is the in tank lift pump. Got to drop the skid anyway to install my rock lizard rear bumper when it finally comes, so I will drop the tank at that time. May not have needed the Racor, but installing it was easier than dropping the tank is going to be.

Ok, I think I've narrowed it down, but haven't had a chance to take things apart to see if I can fix it.

Seems the CP3 side of the fuel supply is draining somehow. The fuel line coming to the filter head remains hard, full of fuel, but after the CRD sits for a while the output side becomes soft, no charge of fuel. A couple of pumps on the priming pump fills it again.

I've checked all the connections at the filter head and tighten the clamp, haven't been able to get down to the input side of the CP3 to see if its wet, but there haven't been any spots on the garage floor. Anyone seen this before???

I put some biodiesel in the tank last week after running very low percentages during the cold and discovered this leads directly to the need for more bleeding. Thicker fuel? Probably. I have a Facet lift pump now. As soon as I can source a pressure sleeve to surround the McMaster Viton fuel line (it won't support pressure by itself), I can install the pump and eliminate this ridiculous bleeding task.

I have decided not to use the Racor 400 series filter, it's diameter is uncomfortably large. It probably could be made to fit, but I'll just re-sell it on eBay....

I got a 200 series filterhead with a short element and non-heated bowl (hey, it was $35). I am going to now try to find the R25S long 2 micron element and a heated bowl. I already have a water probe, but I need to find the connector that mates to it. Progress is slow.

I had the opportunity to have a look at the KK CRD yesterday. Didn't like it that much, a bit too square for my liking. The engine bay is even slightly more cramped than the KJ. I think the engine is still a VM but the intake/FCV setup is different...couldn't take the top noise cover off to have a decent look see.
Surprised though that the fuel filter head looks more like the old 2.5L version and...what's that on top...an airbleed return line complete with check valve I think!! Does that mean it may have the auxilary lift pump?
Maybe DC was listening after all.

If you install the OE filter upside down it will no longer have any water trapping capability.

I'm getting the same symptoms. When it sits for awhile it takes ~10 turns to start. After a short time of sitting= normal 2-3 turns. I don't think I have any leaks either. I've got the raycor, and a kennedy lift pump.
I have not bled it yet. Will right now. I've also been adding Power Service and 2 cycle oil.

There must be a technical explination out there. GMCTD?
