I have been playing with the idea of buying an A4, A6, S60, or something like that but when I pulled up the TRADE IN book value of my CRD there is NO WAY! Why did my CRD lose over $10,000 in less than 2 years......The diesel didn't help the value much on this one.

Excellent
$14,675

Good
$13,635

Fair
$11,785

Check out the "need help with price" thread for real street value. You always take it when you trade-in to a dealer so quit whining. Can you tell I'm sick of the " I can't believe how little my dealer offered me on my trade" threads?

Jeeps won't make much money in the first 2-3 years. It will then hold its value there after. I suggest keep it around for a bit more then trade it in to AUDI or BMW dealer. It is always cleaner to sell it to a dealer during purchase then to find a private buyer. I would take 2k less and give it to dealer.

Oh, about wanting a new car... WHO DOESN'T!?

Well I'll offer $15.5k right now. Check out actual sales prices across the country and you might feel better.

If I was hot for a 'new' vehicle, it would have to be an '05-'06 KJ CRD - the problems are easily solveable, and it scoots with the best of 'em - it's a world-class counter-balanced Diesel engine, world-class crd injection system, has a world-class 5spd auto trans as found behind the hemi and now the big Cummins 6, has a world-class defeatable emissions system - I can almost see it takin' me outta my 3500 Ram CTD..........almost, but not quite - maybe when my knees or hips get too shaky to climb up into that bad boy.......................

fortunately I don't live "across the country" The private party sales prices are fairly good here in the NW. I am just too impatient and like mentioned above it is alot cleaner/easier deal to just trade it in and go. It comes with a price though.....

Dealerships here in the SW are selling '05-'06 CRD's with 14k-40k miles for 25,000-20,000 and they aren't lasting long! These things sell far higher than those numbers.

Just need to sell it in an area where bio-diesel is catching on. Larger towns in the Pacific Northwest are a good bet.

If you want to be shocked, price a 2006 Jetta TDI with 10,000 miles on it in Portland. Dealers are asking 30k for a car that sold for 24 new!

Where did you get those prices? Kelly, NADA. Just remember, those are the books car dealers use to make sure they get your CRD at a steal. They will detail it, and relist it at 18k and pocket the rest.

Check out http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html, and use the TMV True Market Value.

This is closest to actual value I have found, Those other books are published specifically for the auto retail industry and contain what the dealer wants you to think is the value. TMV could help you avoid a very expensive detail job. :D

About a month ago my dealer had an '05 Sport with 49K miles on it. It wasn't in "excellent" shape and they had it stickered for $21,900. I think it was off the lot before it was washed. Due to our colder weather on the east side of the state we are not a bio fuel hot spot. I am pretty sure you could sell it private in a week for $20K range. If patience isn't your strong suit though I guess you need to take the $7K hit.

I paid $19,500 for mine with 30k miles two months ago. And they would only give me $3k for my Subaru in trade -- I had it detailed and sold it in one week for $5k myself.

My 2006 CRD w/30,000 books out at ~$21,290.00 retail (by Edmonds). You just have to take the time to sell it yourself. I would never let it go for $11,000 trade-in!

I see them going on Ebay for $19,500 all the time. I would not sell mine of course since there is nothing out there like it in the US of A

Last time I was surfing the lot the dealer offered to take mine in trade for what I owed (Just over $20k) on a new Jeep.

I told him I wasn't interested in a Jeep I was checking out the FJ Cruser. He said he would only do it NEW vehical not a used.

OH well.

Dont trust any blue books except for ford tauras or chev product lol. Real world value is what you need to be aware of! Plain jan cars its fine but for limited production vehciles and diesels its what you can get. I couldnt emagine trading my in CRD for a wrangler and having to come up with money lol.

Hmmm, wonder how much mine would go for private party? 25K miles, only options were 6 disc CD and skid plates, pre-F37 tranny programming and Inmotion Stage II tune along with all the other mods in the sig. Any SWA guesses?

Dunno, but I'd be hard-pressed to pass it up - I never give anything a second look unless it's white - got two white Starions and the Ram

Price depreciation on Audi's and take a second look at the CRD. Audi's are fantastic used cars because they don't hold their value.

Post subject:  Depreciation

Hello,

Can I ask when you say you lost 10k if that means 10k off of sticker? Please remember that many people bought the crd at 6-7k off of list to begin with. That kind of changes the outlook of depreciation.

I picked up my KJ CRD for 18,780, with 31k on it. The stealer wanted to offer me only $3800 on my 2001 Jetta TDI, with 149k on it, and a NEW timing belt and injection pump, and the engine testing out at 480psi in each of the 4 cylinders. That's NEW range right there.

I sold the car privately about a week later over the internet to a gent from Oklahoma, for 3 times what the dealer offered. I took a little hit for the guy's travel expenses, but I feel that it was a fair deal.

Just gotta keep looking. The buyer for your car is out there.

I was given $17,500.00 for my 05 CRD Limited w/ DVD Nav and leather seats. It had roughly 39,400 miles on it. I traded it about 3 weeks ago into a Ford dealer.
