So I know the rating is 5000lbs, think I would have problems towing my XJ on a 16ft trailer? I plan on adding trailer brakes and brake assist as well. |

I'm towing a 18 foot travel trailer up to north Florida tomm. I'll let you know how it does. I figure if I can pull this almost 5000 lbs box you should be able to pull your XJ without problems. Just make sure you have trailer brakes. I'm also using a sway-control setup on this trailer. So far it pulls great. 1850 RPMs at 60 MPH with no sway. I'll report on MPG when I get back. |

It depends on what your expectations are. I've pulled a 18' flatbed (1900lbs) w/ a 2003 Hyundai Elantra (2800lbs) w/ my CRD. The trailer had surge brakes on it, so there was no monkey-ing w/ the electric brake setup. The CRD pulled this load as well (or better) than my previous puller, a 1985 Ford Bronco 5.8. If you're expecting F350 powerstroke performance, you're going to be disappointed. If you're w/in the weight limits, and your trailer is in proper working condition (brakes) and the load is loaded correctly, you should have no problems towing the rated limit of the CRD. The more important questions are: How much does the 16' trailer weigh, and how much does the XJ weigh? - Jeff |

All, Took my first trip in the CRD this wkend. 600 mile round trip into the mountains. Sea level to 8,000 feet and back towing my 10 foot 3,000lb motorcycle trailer (no brakes). Averaged 19.1mpg and towed great. Behaved MUCH better than my Wrangler. Only complaint is it seems like the steering is slower/heavier compared to my Wrangler. Had to stay on top of it a little more than w/ my Wrangler but overall it was awesome. Played w/ the overdrive switch a lot in the hills so the Automatic worked pretty well (my Wrangler is manual). In all I'm really happy. |
