Hi guys, Been reading these forums for a couple of months now and i thought it was about time i registered and introduced myself My name is Nick and i come from the UK (hence the user name Nikko_UK). I am the very prowd owner of a 2004 Cherokee 2.5 CRD with a 5 speed manual transmision (yes the liberty is still called Cherokee in the UK). I have owned this vehicle since August last year and i bought it from new from my local DC dealer and i have loved every minuet of owning the vehicle and it is all i expected. It is my first DC and my first 4X4. 2.5 LTR engine is a little slugish from stand still but when you get it moving it pulls like a tank. At the time i could not afford the extra ££ for a 2.8, and since the 2005 model was released the 2.5 is no longer avilible. I have just 1 question for now (i am sure that there will be loads more in the future). My vehicle is fitted with the overhead computer (HVIC?) and when i check the average MPG it is usually around 18-20 but when i actully calculate it by my self (i keep a check on fuel used every time i fill up) i get a better figure. Can the HVIC? be reprogrammed to be more accurarte or is it only for a very basic guide. Cheers, Nick. |

Nick - Just so you don't think that we're blowin' you off here... the fact of the matter (speaking only for myself) is: "I don't know". Hopefully someone w/ "true knowledge" will chime in. I know that others have reported that the computer is wildly inaccurate. - Jeff |

What is your mpg per tank? Whats the average your coming up with? My first tank of Diesel fuel in my CRD was 20mpg. This second fill up is better, but I won't know till I have to fill it up agian .... I'm thinking it's not a problem, but wouldn't know for sure without having all the numbers. |

Thanks for the replys guys. Ricky5 average when calculated over a tank full depends on type of driving. Round town and in trafic realy kill the MPG and i get about 21-22, but on longer runs on the motorway i get anything between 25-29 depending on how much i press the loud pedel. I think the milage is about right but the computer is way off. |

Hi Nick, I think you're right. I have 2.5 CRD 5 manual Cherokee and mine averages 28.5 mpg (that's the over head computer and my manual calculation). Have a word with your dealer. If it can be adjusted they should do it and if not, it would probably be a warranty issue. By the way, welcome aboard! It's to nice to see another Englishman

Considering that you're over in England, and if you don't mind a question a little off the thread but relating to fuel - What is DaimlerChrysler telling people over in Europe about running biodiesel? Over here in the US we've had several people say that DC has told them not to run anything higher than B5 or they'll void their warranty. |

Just throwing my US$0.02 in but maybe the computer is calculating based on US gallons instead of Imperial gallons? |

Never thought of this, how many LTRs it there in a US gallon (4.54 in an imperial one) retmil46, i dont think that we yet have Bio-diesel in the UK but i wait to be proved wrong. |

3.79 Liters in a US gallon. I would think if the computer is using smaller gallons then the computer would read lower than your calculations with Imperial gallons. But I'm not a maths person
