Hi,

I think there are several people here who have installed Racor fuel filter/water separators now. What I couldn't find via search was whether they've also installed the water in fuel probe that Racor has. Racor takes pains to say "don't use this probe unless you also have their "water detection kit," which I gather to be an electronic module of some kind.

I'm wondering if that module is needed, or is the ECM already equipped to handle a resistance probe? Or (even better) will the stock WIF sensor thread into the bowl of a Racor unit?

Hi, george. I looked into this a while back and from what i could tell, the resistance curves between the factory and the racor units are VERY similar and I think the "water detection kit" is essentially a little plate with a red LED and scary words that tell you when the sensor is triggered, not much more. I like the idea of using the factory sensor on the replaceable racor bowl. It's got to be close and would perhaps just need an adapter threaded in. I have a CAT unit, so my WIF sensor is available to test, but I don't have a Racor bowl to test it on...

Edit: Just got an email back from racor. They say the WIF sensor is "1/2 - 20 sae threads"

You guys might PM Ranger1. He was able to marry the factory WIF sensor with the Racor bowl.

The Racor "sensor" is nothing but a couple of electrodes separated by space. I bet that's what the factory sensor is as well. It would be easy to test whether the Racor electrodes work in the factory detector; I suspect it will work just fine.

Yep, the trick is having the factory sensor (and consequently the plug and what not) attach to the Racor bowl to avoid uneeded purchases and harness splicing.

No, I haven't messed with the WIF sensor since I disconnected it when I did the CAT filter mod.
