Post subject:  Facet Lift Pumps - Which One?
Need some opinions on which Facet fuel pump to use for our CRD.

The ECU is reprogrammed with a mild Rocket Chip tune which flows a little more fuel and bumps up the turbo boost pressure to 22 PSI. Everything else on the vehicle is stock, with the exception of the Cat Fuel Filter and bleed valve that is going in this weekend, boost valve and SEGR/ORM will be going in later this month. V6 airbox gets installed next month. Baby steps.

I would like to install a Facet fuel pump as a lift pump close to the fuel tank. I see the Facet 40106 is quite popular and a nice pump, however I have been considering the Facet Cylindrical Solid State Series as a slightly higher upgrade, particularly the:

Facet (Bendix) 476087 - Internally regulated for 4.0 - 5.5 PSI and will flow 36 GPH. Nylon 74 micron replaceable filter and 1/8 NPT female
fittings. $103.99 shipped price from JC Whitney.

Facet (Bendix) 480532 - Internally regulated for 6.0 - 8.0 PSI and will flow 45 GPH. Nylon 74 micron replaceable filter and 1/4 NPT female
fittings. $103.99 shipped price from JC Whitney.

I'm leaning towards the 480532, however I was wondering if it would be overkill. Could the fuel filter system handle the higher pressure and flow rate? Would I need to add a fuel regulator prior to the Cat fuel filter?

Isn't modding addictive?

I used the on at 4 off at 7 NAPA version at the filter head and it's fantastic. If you raise the pressure too high you may run into what MrMopar discribes. Re the included pre filter. Something bigger might be in order and maybe see through plastic :?: It's so small and would clog easily and the pump would run dry :shock:

Jeep 2.8L CRD criteria is

low-pressure - 4-9psi

low-volume - ~40gph

must be draw-thru - if failed, CP3 must be able to pull fuel thru the dead pump to in order get you home - most pumps are not flow-thru when fail type

So far, the Facet 4010X series, the GM 6.5 lift pumps, and the KD lift pump meet all three requirements - may be others, but don't have that data as of yet

What are the pros and cons amongst the available lift pumps? I am thinking about installing one but whould like a "plug and Play" where I don't need to worry about any mods to the fuel filter, return line, adding inline coolers, and etc.

I was under the impression the cylindrical shaped Facet fuel pumps were also flow thru design if they failed, but had upgraded components from their smaller box type fuel pump, thus the reason for triple the price tag on the 480532 and the 476087 over the 40106.

Easy to test, but expensive if ya gotta buy one to test it - just blow thru the inlet, or suck thru the outlet - should get airflow with slight exertion, only - if you're straining and getting red-faced and apoplexic, where the store manager rushes over to see if you're ok, pass it up - it ain't flow-thru, no matter what it sez on the box

Oh - and btw, don't fergit to remove the plastic end-caps for the 'test', eh?.......................

And be ready for some sort of storage oil to come running out when you pull the caps off of the facet pumps....Mine peed on me :lol:

Yep - gotta be careful when picking one up at a walk-in emporium - any item may have been tried and returned for refund - unopened, as new in the package, they are dry.

Not always so :lol: The new in the sealed package at NAPA my facet rebranded pump was full of some type of oil like jeger says and of course I blew it all over the counter :oops: :lol: :shock: :?

Maybe they're testing them B4 shipment, now - hope it's something transparent to Diesel fuel and gasoline...............
