Post subject: | 05 broken rear end? |
Wife started thru an intersection and heard a loud crack and lost power to rear wheels. Oil all over front of rear diff. rear end seems to be pointed down slightly. Rear u joint angle seems very sharp. I have not been under the liberty as much as I should but something seems wrong. U joint did not break but there is a break in the drivetrain as park does not work. Any ideas? It is at the dealer in Poway ca. I will report back. |

It seems to me that I saw a recent comment in the "General" section on a component failure in the rear suspension that might be related. This is not CRD specific so I would post it there too. If it sounds like you have the rear axle out of position that might be related. |

Geez, I've not heard of that happening in stock vehicles before. I'd be interested in hearing where it broke...gear teeth, bearing surface, or what. If you can, get a picture of the thing when they get it out. PS - I'd keep my mouth shut about any "performance enhancements" for fear that the dealer would claim the increase in torque is what broke the gear. |

It split right down the middle they feel as I do that it was just a factory defect, sometimes that happens. An internal flaw that just fails, lucky it was under warrantee. I know the mechanic and he did not open the hood and he did not notice the cel (I welded the roll cage in his race car) I just wish he had been to diesel school. |
