While I'm no fan of the Compass, that website is a steaming pile. The choices are no suprise considering the poor quality of their reviews combined with the extreme editorial bias.

Personally I never agreed with new car revies

"the fit and finish isnt good, interior pulled form bottom drawer"

WTF? how are those objective evaluations of the vehicle?

9. Chrysler Aspen – Its OK love your SUV. Just not this one. The Chrysler Aspen is a cynical repackaging of the Pleistocene-era Dodge Durango, complete with an arthritic suspension and interior appointments you’re best advised not keep. It’s ugly, slow (even with a Hemi underhood) and badly built. It’s no wonder Aspen customers are lined-up none deep. - SM

What? How can it be slow with the hemi?

I dont agree with a lot of reviews either, and especially a lot from TTAC But:

TTAC has made no claim of being objective as a whole ... at least not that I have seen

Quote:
What is The Truth About Cars?

The Truth About Cars provides no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners automotive reviews and industry-related editorials. Our writers call it like they see it, and pull no punches. We also provide a comments section for readers to voice their informed and passionate opinions in a atmosphere of mutual respect.

How are you different from other automotive sites?

The Truth About Cars prides itself on its editorial independence. Even though we accept advertising, the ads do not influence our editorial content.

TTAC's a small but feisty site.

I dont think TTAC is a steaming pile Its just a different, entertaing collection of reviews. Other than hard number any review is nothing more than one persons opinion, and you know what those are like. I do think it is fun to read but I wouldnt depend on their reveiws (or any other single sites reviews) to make a decision on a car.

Take it for what you paid for it. If you cant do that you shouldnt read it at all.

I hate to say it but they are not that far off on some. Jeep stuck with the gas guzzling 3.7L instead of something better...the Compass should not be called a Jeep in its present form (if they made a true rally style AWD with more than just window drressing, maybe)...and the Aspen is a new face on an old body.

I do think the shorter wheelbase Liberty will fair better than the Nitro...

Pointing out that the website is crap does not in any way mean I'm endorsing the vehicles on that list. Only stating that they are not credible to be making such a list in the first place.

I like reading TTAC. It is good for a laugh. Just remember TTAC likes cars the same way a lame male fashion designer likes female runway models.

Which reminds me of Zoolander...

skinny model: Ouch.

Fashion Designer: Oh, I'm sorry. Did your FAT 4SS get in the way of my pin? Loose ten pounds immediately or your fired!

But as for the Compass... it deserved the award. It is not a Jeep and it is not even a competitive car (Subaru would wipe up the floor with it). Plus, most are not fond of the craptastic plastic Pontiac Aztec look of the thing and the CVT transmission is not going to help it appeal to most driving enthusiasts.

The Compass was intended to compete with the Subaru Forester far more than a WRX... I think the CVT is fine as it gives the care one of its (very) few strong points, decent MPG. In low-torque applications they work very well, and are cheaper to build than 5 speed and 6 speed automatics.

I take the web site for what it is, an auto writer's opinion blog.
