It's theoretically possible, but with the molded plastic electro-welded to other molded plastic, you're going to introduce a lot of reliability issues by trying that. Better to spend a few extra bucks for the reliability of an intact unit (since reliability is what this mod is about).

I just installed a carter in tank lift pump. I would like to thank all who contributed to this post with all the amazing information and procedures. I doubt that I would have been able to do this otherwise.
I purchased the pump on amazon, and simply added the two wires for the pump. I got the pins at the local Chevy dealer. They loved it when I walked in with the harness and pins extracted for comparison. We ended up going through several boxes of pins before finding them in bin 22.
The whole process took longer than I had hoped but in the end it wasn’t so bad, especially for someone who doesn’t wrench all that often. Knowing how the connectors came apart saved me hours and the expense of replacing broken connectors :banghead: . Even with the tank having a little too much fuel in it, I still found getting to the connection under the seat the biggest pain.
As far as the pump I rotated the Dodge pump one notch to the right. I noticed that the float was hitting the ridge in the bottom of the tank so I bent the wire a few degrees. Once I placed the tank I realized there was some strain on the fuel lines. Trimming the tab slightly on the new pump would have resolved this leaving less strain and contact on the fuel lines when I connected them.
Over all great work and information here…. Thank you all.
Craig

Going to do this soon, as I suspect air in fuel problems.

Thanks to all who went before on this topic!

My lift pump is still going strong since about 2006 and 130,000 miles ago. How is that for reliability? :pepper:

Not quite sure what you're looking at but 13681974 & 13681975 are PN aliases and are available in quantities of 1+

I'm looking for the terminals that are recommended in the write-up, but they seem tough to find for a reasonable price, or when the price is reasonable the quantity is ridiculous. I'll check those part numbers and see what I find. Thanks!

I did some more searching and Midwest Connector Supply has the connectors (with pigtail) in packs of 12 for about $9 each and about $10 shipping total. I purchased them but only need the three connectors. If anyone else is looking to do this and wants to buy a few connectors, PM me and we can work out the details. Thanks everyone!

I need a little help. I have installed the in tank lift pump. I have a new 2006 Liberty V6 rear harness. Is the harness plug and play? Or do I need to repin it? I am partially color blind and am struggling with the colors. I am trying to follow the pin diagram on page 2 of this thread without success. Any help will be appreciated. I gotta get my wife's Liberty running today. Thanks in advance.

My understanding is the gasser harness is a direct replacement? Be sure and install the additional ground wire under the back seat next to the harness plug that does not go through the connector...

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23099&start=120

On my 05, I simply added the two additional wires to the OEM harness, so I have no experience on replacing the the gasser harness.

From one of gmctd's earlier posts:
The rear cabin-harness connector has 8 or so wires (12 for '06) -
Brn, Brn\Blu for fuel gauge sender
DGrn\DBlu and DBlu for VSS (Violet for '06)
blue\orn or green\red for fuel pump - pump ground does not go thru the connector, but attaches to the special ground bracket on the floor pan with a self-tapping screw - that's the square nut without threads, 'bout half-way between the connector and the door
2 for optional (DGrn\Yel, MGrn\Brn andDkGrn\Vio, DkGrn\DkBlu for L&R rw VSS in '06)
The rear harness connector has four wires -
Brown, Brn\Blu for the fuel sender
DkGrn\DBlu and DBlu for the VSS in the differential housing
Black ground is separate, external to the connector
____________
Good luck!

With the help of my wife (who isn't color blind), I re-pinned the 14 pin connector on the 2006 Jeep Liberty V6 harness.
*Move wire from pin 1 to pin 8
*Move wire from pin 3 to pin 9

Pins 8 & 9 on the CRD fuel tank harness are for the right rear ABS sensor. Pins 8 & 9 on the gasser fuel tank harness are unused. Pins 1,2,3 are unused in the CRD fuel tank harness. In the gasser fuel tank harness, pins 1 & 3 are for the right rear ABS sensor and pin 2 is fuel pump power. Therefore, I moved the wires from pins 1 & 3 in the gasser fuel tank harness to pins 8 & 9 to align with the CRD cabin harness.

Pump installation is complete. The CRD is back in service. The CRD really does idle a little quieter with the in tank pump. I was pleasantly surprised.

What part number did you order when you ordered from MIdwest Connector Supply. I've got two Liberties to install lift pumps in and would like to order some. Thanks!

The components from Mouser are ordered... In a few weeks, this job will be in full swing. I too and getting tired of bleeding the air from the filter head.

I just got my unit out of the tank and noticed this same thing. The scariest part would be trying to get the spring guides out, other than that everything looks plug and play. Hell, it looks like you could drop the pump into the CRD unit without much trouble.

I just finished my lift pump and the pump works, I was able to bleed the system by using the pump, but I got a series of Fault codes once I started the jeep up.

P0627-FUEL PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT .
P1001-IGNITION KEY OFF TIMER PERFORMANCE - TOO FAST.
P1002-IGNITION KEY OFF TIMER PERFORMANCE - TOO SLOW .
P1263 - glow plug #2 control circuit low

Any insight? since the pump works I cant imagine I wired anything wrong.

I used a V6 harness and switched pin 1 & 3(for the fuel level sensor) to position 8 & 9 on the harness as they are on the CRD harness.

EDIT:

Nevermind, P0627, P1001, and P1002 went away. For some reason P1263 keeps coming up intermittently.

Edit 2:

Now all those codes are gone.

Bringing this back from the dead :dead:

We have been getting requests from customers looking for a plug-and-play wiring harness for the Cummins in-tank lift pump install. The gasser 2005 fuel pump harness is now discontinued and price on the 2006 model harness has increased from $55 to over $100. Sure you can always DIY, but not everyone has the time, tools or skills for that. Aside from our 100% plug and play harness, the only other thing needed is the fuel pump itself and a few hours of your time.

Now taking pre-orders: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=84374

Why don't you sell the pump also and have a complete package people can buy?

Just a thought.
