Mainly just economics on my part - already got $200 in the Kennedy pump, and it's got no trouble kicking out nearly 4 psi downstream of both filters. It's dropped down to just under 3 psi with cold fuel on initial start this last week with cold weather, but once warmed up a little it's back up to 4. And that's with regular #2 dino.

I'm also pretty much my own warranty station, and if I can help it will be a cold day in Hades before it sees the inside of a dealership again.

One other member sent me an e-mail saying he's just purchased a second Kennedy pump, going to plumb them in series for 8 to 10 psi, to see if there's any performance gain or other benefits.

$400 for two pumps, that's still cheaper than one of those FASS units.

Great job.

I'm really impressed with the ability to use factory parts and have everything plug in.

However I'm not sure I'm finding the right parts online - I've done several searches and on the ones with images I'm getting an Airtex Electronics pump - i.e. it looks like the pump only - not the module - I might end up going to a dealer to order it just so I can show them the picture and say - this entire unit.

(the dealer I called wanted a vin number before they could look up the part)

Did you have a good source for the pump?

#2 son and I hit the boneyards on Shepherd Thursday a.m. on a search and rescue mission, looking for 04-06 Dodge and 05-07 Jeep stuff - we grabbed what we found, and were lucky to find the later stuff - I'll take the '07 KJ V6 fuel module back and trade it for something else

FYI - the modules appear not to be easily repairable - the component housing\mounting parts are all plastic - the plastic parts are ultrasonically welded together - no hill fer a stepper, as pop-rivets are the experimentive mechanic's best friend, and the ABS\PVC stuff is ealily bonded, but replacing the electric fuel pump will not be a plug-n-play item

All replacement stuff I've seen has been the complete module assembly

Airtex and Masters are both brands of the main replacement source

Yep - those fit the GM-Ford-Chrysler and most oem in-tank systems from the '80's-'90's - that was back when you could replace the electric pump in the steel-cage fuel module - now they're all thermo-plastic moldings, serviceable by replacement-only

I don't recall seeing a replacement Diesel pump listed in their catalog - try NAPA for the complete module, or the online dealer listed by Bill Barq

I've done a preliminary break-down and modify for adding a commonly-available replacement pump to the Jeep module - the top is easy-off, the fuel guage is easy-off - but it will be difficult, as the locating-clamp spider is ultrasonic-welded to the housing, which will make it nigh onto impossible to run a filter screen - pics if interested.
The Jeep module has no pre-filter screen - the Dodge does.

I highly recommend using the Dodge module

So, since you've had this working at least a couple hours  Any driving impressions, stats, etc?. I'd like to know if there's a tangible benefit other than "This will probably do X" and "Over the life of the vehicle, Y"?

I have tried my local dealers for the Dodge parts with no luck finding anything in stock to look at and compare with.

I figure the 2006 gasser harness is a sure thing.

So..... It is a bit of shot in the dark to purchse new pump parts, cuz they are electrical and there are "no returns on electrical".

It will be a while before I get the cajones to purchase, plug and play.

I would be willing to paypal someone, say $20 and if $160/$20= 8 people do so as well, some interepid soul could get themselves a free Dodge pump to install, and test. I am willing to loose $20, not $160, know-what-I-mean?

Any takers on this. Guinea pig? Funders?

Bill

I have no input on that, Dan, having ridden in the Jeep less than 10 times, and only three of those was I briefly driving it - I haven't driven it since installing the lift pump.

I did install a 30psi guage on the fuel manager head for long-term testing - the module immediately pumps 9psi at WTS - it maintains 9psi for a period of time after shut-down, indicating the anti-drainback valve is functional, and no system leakage

The KJ does have the EDGE Trail module, so we've not experienced some of the stock problems - I did notice an increase in throttle response after disconnecting the MAF - that was the third drive, B4 the lift pump install.

If you're experiencing longer starting, hesitation, surging, etc, a remote-mounted lift pump can solve those problems - it may not completely prevent damaging the fuel heater, as the fuel manager head is the highest point in the system, but it should reduce the probability of failure - system pressurizes to 9psi in less than one second - takes far longer than that for the fuel heater to come up to temperature, and only 85degF, at that.

Try it - you'll like it...................

Bill, the electric pump and fuel module are not separate pieces - that is now a unit assembly - only the fuel guage sender is easily replaced, and it's listed separately, so is serviced separately (edited)

I'd try the local boneyards for a '06 model, to get low mileage

What confused me was that the online stores tend to either have no image or a universal image attached to all Dodge fuel pumps - the universal image is from one of the (patooie!) systems.

So I think you have to either go somewhere you can see the image - a parts dealer or a recycle yard
(note: Houston has boneyards, Austin has recycle centers - but not many Cummins in them)

or find a store with a good return policy.

I had my sons with me at a younger time - #2 was about six - shopping thru a local recycle center - #1 son pointed to a quested specimen, so I told him I could see the part was missing, already stripped - whereupon #2 son said they all looked like skeletons - I concurred, stating that we were in an automotive graveyard, where all good cars go, hopefully for resurrection to another life on another car - it's been boneyards, ever since.

Try the truck yards - car yards bid on trucks only as part of a large lot of desired passenger cars - the pool throws the less desireable trucks in with the lot of cars so they can move them - they have to take the truck(s) or pass on the lot - the truck yards bid only on trucks, so they get the more popular editions.

Even in the DCX parts manual, the pictured item is usually not the Diesel version - can be confusing, even to MrMoparts

Print the desired images from this thread, incl that Dodge part number - right-click on 'save picture as', save it to your photo-processing folder, go from there

GMCTD,

See http://tucson.craigslist.org/pts/453509659.html

It is a 2004 RAM Cummins 100,000 miles

He wants $30

What do you think?

Well - that's 10 more than your 20buck proposition to determine which part number matched which item, BUT - that's a '94 12valve - the lift pump is mechanical, operated by the camshaft - sorry, charlie - starkist wants tuna that taste good, not tuna with good taste ..........................

Wow - and I was beginning to feel ripped for paying 175 for a pre-owned module, particularly when you guys were showing 212bucks for a new one on-line

the couple of times I've ordered from some of these places - the naming conventions vary dramatically - it's critical that you call or email.

I'd bet the $1000 is the injector pump up front - even if they listed it as the tank pump.
