This morning when I came outside I noticed a hose was hanging down from around the transmission area. I tried to feel up to see where it was coming from but couldn't fit my hand in there.

It is a black rubber hose, and I have at least a couple feet hanging down from the top of the transmission area near the back. Kind if above where there is that mesh looking stuff on the exhaust.

The hose is maybe a half inch hose. It didn't have any fluids running from it or any puddle on the ground. It appeared dry.

What is this, and what should I do? Should I drive to a dealer? Or get a tow?

Should be the rubber line to the transfer case vent - is it open-ended?

It was open ended and clean and dry.

Where should the vent hose be rather than hanging down to the ground?

I must have run over something that broke a clamp or tie..

It's normally taped to the trans\xfer case harness, up over the top of the transmission - impossible to reach with the trans in place - tywrap it to the dipstick tube

So I was able to get a better look at it, and it looks like what happened is the wire that plugs into the transfer case was what it was attached to.

That wire and the hose were fastened into the cardboardy like surface under the cabin - kind of beside the transmission and transfer case. This was all just above the heat shield which is above the exhaust.

The two holders came out of the cardboardy stuff, and the wire fell down and nearly burned through on the exhaust. I checked the wires and the only thing that was damaged was the plastic wrap that goes around the wires. I wrapped it up good with electrical tape.

Now my problem is where I attach the wire and the vent hose to - since the holders were ripped out of the cardboardy thing. There is nothing in the area for me to get to....

MacGuyver where are you when I need you....

Well - since you can now reach it easily - get some hose & connectors and extend it up into thene compartment
