I am getting exhaust fumes inside the cabin when the fan is on. When I switch the fan to recirculate it is not apparent. Has anyone experienced this.

I would check on the turbo piping, sounds like the outlet of the exhaust side might have popped off or have a leak.

Got it back from the dealer , under extended warranty, I can't imagine what they would charge if it wasn't. They said it looked like a leak between the cat and muffler. They said they used a copper gasket and hoped that fixes it, drive it for a while and see. While before the fumes were strong at highway speeds now it is noticable while stopped. The only trouble is we just had our first snowfall and freezing temps, not to comfy with the window open.

Take it back to them. You shouldn't be smelling exhaust at all, they haven't fixed the problem yet.

It's the connection of the turbo and the exhaust pipe. Sometimes it loosens with the engine vibration.
The turbo/exhaust pipe clamp needs to be loosened and the exhaust system has to be realigned so it doesn't bang on the frame and the clamp tightened.
I guarantee your dealer tech will just reach in and tighten the clamp. They won't align the exhaust system and it will still leak.
It's an easy fix...Except for Chrysler Group Techs

I seem to remember in the service manual a warning that the gasket between the turbo and the exhaust pipe needs to be replaced every time the connection is taken apart.

I would ask the dealer for a new gasket and proper alignment.

This is what I see in the service manual, no gasket but has clamp that must be replaced.

The front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter
to turbocharger clamp is not reusable.
Always use a new clamp when reinstalling the catalytic
converter.

No gasket and you don't have to replace the clamp....UNLESS the tech uses the usual dealer philosophy..."tighten the sh-t out of it till just before it strips or breaks."
But you have to align the exhaust system before snugging up the clamp.
Trust me....do it yourself if you can, cause you'll be back to your dealer MORE times before they get it repaired properly. You see. they'll JUST tighten the clamp, which without aligning things will distort the V design clamp, thus NOW you need a new one. Or maybe you'll run into a tech who actually thinks about his or her job WHEN they are working on something as opposed to at home who has figured out how to fix this issue. But I doubt it, they are ALL afraid the the diesel liberty and instantly go blank when the dealers get one in to repair. As one of the extremely creative folks on this site once said, "I am my Jeeps warranty repair shop."

To update, CRD has been in the clutches of the dealer for 3 days, I gave the service manager ( we are on first names) some of the explanations from this thread (minus the service techs comments) which he accepted. By yesterday they were waiting to replace the catalytic today,(don't know why yet), as they were installing it they noticed a leak in the turbo piping, now waiting for new pipe. The saga continues.

I hope they get it done for you in good order....
Maybe, just maybe, Cerebres is a GOOD influence on these wayward Chrysler Group'ies.....
I was just at my usual local Dodge portal getting the "Princess" a few consumables for the Little Oiler and low and behold my favorite parts man, who I have known there for years, darn near almost smiled....It's got to be a sign.......
