I am new to the CRD but already an avid L.O.S.T. reader/member. Just cleaned my MAP sensor @ 26,500 miles. Found it totally clogged up. I noticed no performance difference until I read another msg that advised to disconnect /reconnect the battery to give a chance for the ECU to "learn" the new signal coming from the clean sensor. Maybe this is no news to anyone but it made a big difference in my case. Thanks to all of you that continuously provide advise to keep our CRD's running like they should. |

I have 65,000 miles and have never cleaned the sensor. My MPG has remained constant and performance seems the same. I'm just afraid to mess with things when they are going right. |

I noticed a more quite running engine during idling and driving, as well as better acceleration. |

FYI - Recently found that Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor spray cleaner works equally well on removing soot from the MAP sensor. |

ECM and TCM both forget everything they learned when the battery is disconnected - you will notice considerable difference in response until they re-learn your driving habits over period of several days - similar after you've pulled a trailer: shifts are firmer, response is tighter for a while thereafter - you will find this to be true with or without cleaning the MAP sensor - still a good idea to pull and clean it, tho - maybe once a year with the air filter and stuff, depending on your driving locale and range - prolly doesn't hurt to jog the cpu's memory every so often, anyway - let it know who cracks the whip around here............... |

gmctd....I cracked the whip. I think I could have squeezed a few more miles out of it before cleaning ![]() ![]() |

Ours was fatter than that, but not as wet at 53kmi - that stuff can buffer temperature, giving false readings, but doesn't buffer pressure very well - seems like we'd be having more problems with IAT Just think - your intake manifold is packed with that sooty scuzz, and totally uncleanable without removing the entire aluminum cover from the cylinder head - major labor. |

I've cleaned my MAP sensor twice now and didn't really notice any real performance gains, but did not unhook the battery. I'll have to try this next oil change. About how long until the ECM and TCM "forget" what they have learned? I disconnected the battery a while ago and the computers did not have to "relearn" my habits. It was disconnected for about 2-4 hours. Additionally the on board computer did not "forget" my inaccurate mpg reading, it still reads 2+ mpg. Any ideas? |

On the old turbo Dodge cars from the 80s, resetting the computer would cause the car to temporarily run faster until the fuel curves leaned up and the computer relearned how to control the wastegate to prevent overboost. Many folks would pull the plug to the engine computer before staging at the drag strip to get that extra bit of kick off the line. - Chris |

Could be because the transmission has several shifting modes depending on the transmission temperature sensor, engine coolant sensor, intake air and ambient air sensors, and some other parameters, but maintly temperature-based - but 4hrs is way more than adequate to dump learned driveability |
